With the farming skill completely covered, we move on to foraging! While this is a bit briefer than the last, there's still plenty to go in depth into. The main topics we'll be going over are trees and, of course, foragable items!

Honestly my favorite part of Botanist is also inventory management. Having all forageables only taking one slot each is so much nicer than having three spaces of inventory for the same item

Rainbow shells can also be used in the sewing machine (not the dye pots) to dye clothes without having to locate something of each color for the dye pots! So I hang on to them for that because I like making clothes. Just put the item of clothing you want to dye (assuming it CAN be dyed) in the cloth place, and the rainbow shell in the spool, and it'll bring up a color menu.

You can also put tea leaves in preserve jars for pickled tea leaves, which sell for more money than green tea and allows you to use your kegs for better things.
@dddmemaybe
@dddmemaybe Жыл бұрын
Yea but preserve jars cost roughly 1,700 gold to make and a keg is just 700 gold plus an Oak Resin. edit: I factored this by factoring wood as the base component cost of 10g/wood from the year 1 robin's shop and making each coal take rightly as 10 wood (or 100g/coal). Then I factored that coal as 1 per bar that was smelted, and both either 10 stone or 5 of any the generic ores(copper/iron) would also count as 10 wood. Chopping a tree or finding and breaking these standard ore nodes are roughly equivalent. Trees take longer to break and run out; have to be bought sometimes, whereas ores can be gathered infinitely instead of running out but can be a bit farther apart at times. With that, the preserve's jar is 50 wood, 40 stone(I'll mirror it to 40 wood as stone rarely gets used in crafting recipes) and 8 coal(or 80 wood in the charcoal kiln) for 170 wood, or 1,700 gold of value when bought from Robin's. The keg is 30 wood, 1 copper bar(10 wood twice for 5 ore and 1 coal = 20 wood), 1 iron bar (20 wood), and one Oak Resin(somewhere between the full 80 wood cost of a tapper, and a small fraction of that amount over time) for between 700 gold and 1500 gold of value when bought from Robin's. Depending on how old your tappers are; getting cheaper over time.

Corrections: your profit/day column is just a copy of the animal costs. Mushroom Trees can be grown from seeds obtained via Qi Gems. Salmonberries and Blackberries can have their sell price tripled with Bear's Knowledge, though like spring onions by the time it's available it's insignificant. Crocus is loved by Sandy. You completely left out desert foraging. Ginger Island too.

There's one little bit of deeper mechanics that would've been really good to have in this guide: the mechanics of how foragables spawn and despawn. Basically, they have a chance to spawn on certain set tiles on each day; each area can have up to 6 foragable items in it. Most importantly, foragables don't just despawn over night! Instead, every foragable still on the ground will be culled every Sunday. This means, if you're really optimizing your money grind, you're best off spending your time sunday-friday fishing or mining after you're done with daily chores, and make *Saturday* foraging day. There really isn't much reason to go out foraging on any other day (barring events like salmonberry and blackberry season) since there will almost never be enough lucky rolls to reach the item limit on any one screen. This also means that Sunday is the *worst* day for foraging.

I always devote salmonberry / blackberry season purely to collecting all the bushes, with enough of them its practically impossible to run out before the next one begins, making energy and health no longer an issue for the rest of the game without spending any gold. Also the base 6 fruit trees are great for universally liked gifts, its a low effort way to gift to anyone you bump into.

Lvl 1 foraging also allows you to pull up normal tree seeds from the ground before they sprout. Before lvl 1 you just destroy them. After, you can gather them. On my normal farm, I will chop down the tops of all the trees then do a lap around the farm each day to see new seeds have spawned from stumps. It's a great way to find lots of seeds for field snacks in early spring. Plus you end up being MUCH closer to lvl 4 foraging before salmon berry season.

Aren’t these videos just so amazing!? (If u want to skip the next part its just me describing how much i love the game and that I’ve gained skill over time, afterwards i start talking about the video.) I have been playing stardew valley for many many years, I’ve never completed the game but i would say im quite good at the game. My first save i made when i was a kid, i played four years aaaand well- i had about 10k, i hadn’t reached the bottom of the mine, i didn’t have the community center completed yet alone even know what ginger island was, but I had fun. Since i have made six new worlds, i haven’t ever finished the game but i make new ones with my friends, i make different ones on different Devices (switch, pc, ps4, etc.) and Ive probably play a total of about 100-500 hours a year. My point is even though i don’t really need these videos, i enjoy them so much. They are so informative and entertaining. I love watching them because it makes me feel that awesome feeling of stardew valley life when i cant play the game, thanks man.

Something missing from your section about the secret woods: if you purchase a chair from Robin, you can place the chair facing the log blocking the entrance, sit down, then stand up on the other side of the log. The chair should be close enough for you to grab from the far side on your way out, allowing you to leave.
@airbendingeagle2358
@airbendingeagle2358 Жыл бұрын
Depending on which farm you start with, you should already start with a chair. I'm actually surprised that this wasn't mentioned sooner. Because the chair is an awesome way to bypass the fallen log blocking the secret woods. HOWEVER, I highly recommend getting your Axe upgraded to just copper before attempting this because you can't chop the stumps with the normal axe you get (I know this is obviously to most players, but for those who have just gotten into Stardew Valley)

Tea saplings are best to sell if you're going for early profit. Make spring seeds from forageables -> plant seeds -> make even more seeds from forageables grown -> keep growing as many as you can -> make tea saplings to sell -> start summer with a ton of cash. I just tried that method for the first time this play through I'm doing right now, my total earnings for my first spring was 76k and I started summer with 45k for seeds and whatever. I could have had more but I ran out of wood. If you do decide to plant them and harvest the tea, the very best thing to do is to use them as fences. That way they don't take up precious space on your farm that could be otherwise utilised and as a bonus they never break down so you don't have to constantly keep renewing your fences.

this foraging event isnt very big, but as a real life, vegetarian mushroom forager, it was very very exciting to me. (pointed out vegetarian because mushrooms can replace a lot, and i mean a LOT, of meat) i started a new playthrough after abandoning the game for around a year and as usual, i chose the forest farm because even if i didnt play, i did, however, stalk the stardew valley wiki and learned that foraging happens there. after going to my farm, i began exploring it. in the spot where stumps spawn, i found a morel. i had never found a mushroom in the game before so that itself made me want to scream. picked it up. it was a gold quality. that time, i DID, in fact scream. my first ever stardew mushroom was a gold quality. next day, i found a silver morel and a gold horseradish. too bad i cant access that playthrough anymore- i was so pumped because morels are very rare in real life and my dream was to find one there. this was close enough i guess. edit: i am relieved holly has no use because it is NOT edible, it is actually mildly poisonous. my father ate a berry as a child and got sick, so learn from his mistakes and do your research before eating anything you forage. stay safe, please.

So I never see anyone talking about this but fiber seeds grow in winter (which is useful because there are no weeds outside only in the mines) and stay planted between seasons. So I plant them to keep my layout in place in between winter and spring. You could also use this in between spring and summer (coffee plants keep but they produce multiple harvests so if you want something that will grow once, so you can free up space.) From Summer to Fall I would skip this because regular seeds preserve fertilizer better (I tend to use a mix of wheat and sunflower). In terms of money making this probably isn’t going to be profitable. But all of the ingredients are easily dropped as part of regular foraging (mixed seeds, sap and clay) and fibers used in a lot of crafting (i.e. totems, wild bait, scarecrows). Most importantly it will save you a lot of time in planting because you won’t have to retill a lot. If you end up using this you might want to tap a couple hardwood trees to have a regular supply of sap (also useful for fertilizer).

i actually like that mahogany trees give sap, i never seem to have enough, at least early to mid game, for fertilizer

In summer I like making and planting the summer seeds because It requires less ingredients, and they are easier to get in the right quantities. Soo, yeah, good season to make tea saplings

Honestly, botanist I'll always choose, especially since I can before salmonberry season year 2, since by that time, if you know what you're doing, you can amass a ton of them, and basically never need to worry about energy, potentially lasting up until next spring

Mahogany trees actually grow slower than other standard trees! Unfertalized, its a 15% chance every night, and when fertalized, only has a 60% chance to grow every night, which is a massive difference compared to normal trees Also, 9 times out of 10, crafting winter seeds to sell isnt worth it. Only craft them to use them, and then sell at the end of season. You can also use crystal fruit as a fruit for wine making, which is very nice if you dont have a starfruit/ancient fruit filled greenhouse yet!

Crystal Fruit is a lot more valuable than you'd think. I don't remember the specifics but I remember it's on par or more valuable than peaches and pomegranates, making it an excellent candidate for kegs! It's no Star or Ancient Fruit, but in a Year 1 Winter where you have limited resources and ways to make money. Simply foraging for them on Saturdays between days of fishing and popping them into kegs will give you an even greater boost of money to start out Year 2

So, I've noticed some differences with some of this info in my game. I've had trees with Tree fertilizer planted at the same time take different amounts of time to fully grow. Also I've gotten two Mahogany Seeds from a single tree before on multiple occasions. EDIT: I have learned that Mahogany Trees specifically only get boosted to a 60% chance to grow with Tree Fertilizer as opposed to the 100% chance of Oak, Pine, and Maple trees. Another note in regards to Fruit trees, every year (to the date the tree started producing) the fruit will go up in quality.

I laughed OUT LOUD when you got to the mahogany tree with the tapper. The fart sound was hilarious. But that being said, if you make a large enough mahogany tree farm you'll have endless supply of sap. Which will turn into high quality fertilizer. PROFIT!!!!

Two(maybe) corrections On the forest farm I remember either 7 or 8 because two sections one is 4 the other is either 3 or 4(this is the maybe I may be delusional and remembering things incorrectly) Secondly you CAN get to the secret forest early by taking your chair and basically glitching to the other side you just can’t chop chop any of the stumps. Hope this helps anyone
