Folders are normally not made for bushcraft. Especially not this one! Meet the Fallkniven Gentleman in CoS steel. What did we do with it?.... BUSHCRAFT OF COURSE! This is a folder we really wanted for our own EDC as we are of course true gents. But as Dutch BUSHCRAFT KNIVES we of course could not let the opportunity slip to test this knife out in the field!

Well I must definitely say a big thank you lads as I have gone to get this knife countless times but just never pulled the trigger on it. Always going for something a bit more modern in style. But after watching you two having your fun with it I can definitely say it’s going too finally makes it’s way into my collection ( god love the poor little tinker)😂 as for me I need some food after seeing you pair eating them burgers my guts is bubbling like a drunken baby elephant after hitting the fermented fruit in a forest! You two have a beautiful weekend and most importantly of all stay safe and healthy lads. Right I need food😝

Thing is victorinox knives do blunt fairly quickly but at the same time I find them quick and easy to sharpen. So for a edc as long as you give the victorinox a little sharpen on a wet stone every now and again they’re fine. And if you ever loose it it’s no big deal coz they aren’t dead expensive.

yup, every minute of extra edge retention translates into another 10 minutes of sharpening. expensive knives are only really attractive if you are actually good at sharpening, or have some system that works well for you. i myself struggle with this, regardless of system, and as a result i find myself going oldschool and really loving carbon steel. you gotta take care of it, but at least i know even i will be able to get a decent edge on it.

The true test for such folders is the shield on the handle, if it is just inlaid it always fails, best built folders have the shield as part of the internals of the knife though this takes far more workmanship.

The Boker Urban Trapper is the classiest gent knife, this doesn't even come close. I would not baton with it tho, it's very light. I like the Cocobolo wood handle for it's classic look, but there's also G10 and Titanium.
@MrAdameger
@MrAdameger 8 ай бұрын
I have both and they are not comperable. While the urban trapper falls apart in a relatively short time (rusting bearing, broken clip) the gp is a very solid knife built for tougher work. I loved the trapper when it worked but now I use an alox 1 instead.

I’m a filipino who opens coconuts a lot and your coconut opening skills are not bad. Honestly, I do almost the same technique, shaving off most of the husk off the top til I get to the shell then I just use a sharp bolo (philippine machete) to chop off the top enough to expose some meat to be poked thru by a straw

My EDC knife is a US ARMY issued pocket knife. It's all stainless, has a 3" blade, an awl, a can opener, a bottle opener with a flat blade screw driver and a lanyard loop. It's marked "U.S." on the left scale and it's made by Camillus. It is a folder without a lock verry similar to the Victorinox. I had two of them but the TSA took one away when I forgot it in my pocket at the Nashville airport, JERKS. Do a review of that knife guys!

If you would have sharpened the V edge also that would have been more fair because a factory edge is never what it could be. So I'm pretty sure it wasn't because it was a V edge but because you didn't sharpen it
@rando27enco
@rando27enco Жыл бұрын
I think the main thing is that the convex edge was at a lower angle than the factory v edge. V edges are sharper and will cut most things better but are worse for wood work and chopping/batoning.
@rem700vtr
@rem700vtr Жыл бұрын
The coconut comparison is fair, BUT the point of the victorinox is that you have other tools too, and in the classic alox pioneer you have the punch/reamer that would have been the better tool for that hole carving.

@@TheDarkSkorpion It's a really nice ang classy knife but it's clearly a more food prep and small edc tasks orientated knife than the others. But if you want to look like a true gentleman, nothing works best than getting your Laguiole out of its leather pocket. They've upraged the steel to 12c27 last year too so it's easy to sharpened, rustproof and depending on your choice for the scales, a knife that you can easely pass down to futur generations like my ownw grandpa wants to.

@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives Жыл бұрын
440c and CoS have completely different compositions?
@PTSDexplosion
@PTSDexplosion Жыл бұрын
Completely different compositions=same Carbon (0.95-1.20 in 440c vs 0.96-1.15 in CoS), same Chromium (15-17 vs 16-18), similar Silicon (1.00 in 440c vs 0.60-0.70 in CoS), similar Molibdenum (0.75 vs 1-2), more Manganese in 440c (1.00 vs 0.30), with the only difference in carbides being 2-3% copper added to CoS, along with 0.20 nickel and wolfram. It has literally the same carbide distribution and composition except for a complexive carbide percentage difference of barely 3% across the board. And even though Vanadium does increase toughness if the rest of the composition allows it to, the amount put in CoS is so irrisory (0.20%) that it makes the price and hype around the steel absolutely unjustified. Even vg10, which is relatively similar to 440c has a carbide distribution that’s more different from the latter than CoS’ lol; but again, they know that 440c sounds unsexy to the online community so they sprinkle in a minuscule amount of carbides to murk the water, and give it a different name because there’s a bunch of knives in 440c in the $50-200 range with good heat treatments and qc that would give these steels a run for their money, but obviously you don’t wanna compete with practicality and day-to-day utility and performance when you can just rely on brand name and aesthetics while using materials that are very similar if not the same or subpar and pump the price up threefold or more.

Absolutely loved your detailed review of the Fallkniven GP! If you're looking for another traditional folding knife that beautifully blends timeless aesthetics with contemporary materials, I'd highly recommend checking out the Karbon Knives Ahoy. It's a perfect blend of the old and new. Would love to see it put to the test on your channel!

Since all the K-Bar-type Military knives suck, Cold Steel has a new one! "Cold Steel 39LSFCAA Lynn Thompson Signature Leatherneck Bowie Fixed Blade Knife 10.5" D2 Stonewashed Clip Point with Full-Length Fuller, OD Green Griv-Ex Handles, Secure-Ex Sheath" D2 steel is not as impressive I know, but for only $159 USD. I see a destruction test in your future. I hope this one is good too. I'm tired of seeing sucky K-Bars. There should be at least one good one.

The Fallkniven GP is priced at $350 Canadian...way to much considering the competition from China. I'm not denying that they are great knives...l've wanted one for years, but adding Canadian postal costs and then GST (taxes) the cost to me is over $400 Cdn. Sorry, but that's too much for an EDC user. 😢
