For the jaguar pickup: What they wanted to do was to make the pickup a bit "hotter" than that of a strat. So by putting it in an enclosure like this one it changes the magnetic field a bit (like the plate under the tele pickup) and makes it tighter, changes the response. Upvote so the captain can see it?

Incorrect, it's for shielding purposes
@rowlandstraylight4 жыл бұрын
The big steel wrap-around backplate on a jaguar pickup partly acts an RF shield, but because it's steel not nickel silver it massively increases the inductance of the pickup. The effect is similar to adding more turns of wire. The pickup has more output but sounds darker as guitar pickups behave as inductive low pass filters.

My MIJ Jaguar HH special from 2004 is an absolute gem. I've owned it for nearly 20 years now, it's my only guitar and I love it truly and deeply. It doesn't have the tremolo, but does have Humbuckers and honestly it's a great guitar. I also love the Strat and I previously owned one which I had to sell during hard times, and have been thinking of buying another recently. Now though I'm leaning more and more into the view that the Jag is the perfect guitar.. I should get myself another, with the tremolo this time. Although.. I have a '60s Jag that I bought second-hand when I was a clueless teenager in the '70s. Of course there was no internet in those days, and even written sources were almost non-existent, so I had to figure most of this stuff out on my own. I figured out the switching pretty quickly. But it took me a long time to understand why my Jag didn't sound like Les Paul or even a Strat, haha. The thing that really threw me was the mute. In those days I played exclusively with my fingers and hadn't yet learned how to palm-mute, so the purpose of the mute was mysterious to me. One thing I did figure out very quickly was that if you did try to use the mute, it threw the tuning a few cents sharp (as you can clearly hear in this video at 8:27), which even my untutored teenage self realized made it completely useless. I left mine on the guitar for years until the rubber got completely petrified, at which point a tech recommended that I remove it. (But he urged me to save it, which I did.) The thing that was even more mysterious was the "trem-lok", which I didn't figure out until the late 90s, when some very useful guides appeared on the internet. To this day, most techs that I've encountered don't understand it, and if you want to get your Jag (or Jazzmaster) properly set up, you have to find a tech who really understands how these things were meant to work. Of course it's still a pretty useless function; it was designed to help you stay in tune if you broke a string in the middle of a show. These days, if that happens, most of us just reach for our spare guitar. But I guess back in the 50s and early 60s, onstage spares were a luxury that even a lot of pros didn't have. I just like to have the trem-lok set up correctly solely so that I know my Jag is working the way it was meant to. :)

I never liked the Jaguar due to all the switching. I saw a Candy Apple Red Jaguar Professional in the flesh, and noted the practical changes made to the switching fell in love with how it felt and bought it. I apologise in advance to the big Jaguar fans out there but I then changed out the pickups to Seymour Duncan’s Single coil sized Humbucker, and the switch up the top is to tap for single coil. Now it’s one of my go to’s. Use it for everything from Foo Fighter’s to The Police.

I love my jag ever since I got it and felt it vibrate in my hands, I knew it was meant for me.

I once owned Squier vm jaguar that stemmed my love for them. I was originally looking for a jazzmaster, I’m so glad I made the decision on the jag instead. I saw that same jaguar in a local guitar store a while ago, I recognized it immediately because of the maple’s figuring on the headstock. hoping I have a classic player jaguar make its way into my hands soon, if not, a jag-stang.

I took your advice (to get the coolest-looking one) and went for the Squier. If the Player series had the binding/block inlays I might've stretched. Great video as usual.

@15:10 That "acoustic distortion" is all the parts rattling due to the shallow break angle over Leo's offset bridge/trem design. 😂

Mustang came out in 1964, but it was a redesign of the Duosonic which was 1956.
@skiptracer29884 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. The Mustang was it's own model intended to be the top end student model. The Duosonic.was redesigned a year after in 65 to have the same body and switching as the Mustang. The Duosonic in it's new form stayed in the lineup.

12:28 there is a clasp for the tremolo bar, you just have to press it in hard enough. after you have pushed it in and feel the clasp attach, it will stay in place so it wont flop around.

I built my own jaguar with humbuckers and I love the feel and shape. Be very hard for me to go back to a non offset.

IMO Leo has succeeded in insulating the bridge from the body, vibration is then encouraged through the bridge plate to the head stock and tremolo unit via the strings. Both Jazz & Jaguar have pickups designed to widen the magnetic field around the string area. Lee should look to new Fenders guitar case tickets signed DW (Dave Wronski) and also see his band Slacktone.

I have enough issues troubleshooting my pedalboard when something starts buzzing or goes silent. The vast amount of switches on these guitars seems a bit much. The more switches, the more things that can go wrong. They are beautiful to look at for sure.

You have to push the bar all the way in hard or it will fall out and/or rattle. Get it right before yanking on Leo. Beautiful trem if you use it right. A 9.5 Mustang bridge is new and improved. The strangle switch cuts the bass frequencies. Great for fat fuzz playing. The trem is a gentle wobble trem like a bigsby. You can get some interesting sounds by pucking behind the bridge with gobs reverb and tremolo. Mustang bridge keeps the strings in the slot. Cool video.

Dont discount the current Squire Jaguars. I could not afford the USA made model so I settled for the Squire and was not disappointed. I like the surfing sound and with my 70s Classic Vibe Jaguar in surf green & a TC Electronics Drip box I can get close to the sound I want. Squires used to be a cheap made guitar, not the case anymore.

I’ve had a look through the comments and I haven’t seen any reference to the Beach Boys, apologies if I missed them, but I think it’s worth noting that some of us became aware of the Jag via the pictures of Carl with his white Jag all over the cover of the 64 Beach Boys Concert Album. He used it almost exclusively until he saw Harrison’s Rick 12, which he immediately adopted, while Al took over the Jag, as can be seen in the TAMI show video. I always liked the bright, heavily reverbed sound Carl got from the Jag, and when I saw the new Squier FSR Classic Vibe '60s Jaguar In Olympic White, I bought myself one as an old man’s folly. On the first one the frets were so bad that some notes didn’t sound at all so I took it back and they replaced it. The second one was a bit better, but despite having a luthier level the frets I have to keep the action high to avoid buzzing. I have to say the quality of Singapore made Squiers is far lower than my Chinese CV Strat and Tele, which are both excellent

Been scarred by knocking the switches off and muting the entire guitar whilst borrowing a Jag for a gig years ago. Didn’t really understand the switching, so spent 5 minutes (seemed like half an hour) checking patch leads, tubes and the power cord before realising I’d switched both pickups off during the power chords before the big solo. But perhaps it’s time to revisit La Jaguare. 😊
@davidburke21324 жыл бұрын
Of course a chord won’t stay in tune when you use the vibrato. The “intonation” really has little to do with this in the scheme of things. Your biggest problem is that each of the six strings is at quite a significantly different tension so when you reduce the tension using the whammy bar that simply won’t happen in a linear and consistent way across all of the strings at the same time. The D’Addario website used to have a really useful string tension calculator tool but it’s down for development at the moment.
@omgvague4 жыл бұрын
What would happen with a set of balanced tension strings, then?
@davidburke21324 жыл бұрын
nephyril Even balanced tension strings aren’t truly balanced. They’re just closer to balance than a standard set of strings. Ultimately there’s only so close to balanced you can get whilst keeping strings within a range that people find acceptable for feel and playability. However, it is an interesting question. I don’t categorically know what would actually happen if a totally balanced tension set of strings were possible. I still suspect there would too many other variables for a chord to stay truly in tune (things like differences modulus of elasticity - essentially how much something stretches under applied force - caused by the different string types, plain vs wound, and thickness, differences in coefficient of friction which will affect the movement of strings through the nut and over the bridge saddles and will also as a result affect the tension of the non-active length of string behind the nut and between bridge and tailpiece/anchor point and as a result will affect the behaviour of the whole string when the whammy bar is used). I’m coming at that answer from a logic and physics argument basis though rather than from direct experience and without getting someone to manufacture some crazy custom string set at exorbitant cost to create a totally balanced tension set I don’t see a way to turn this from a logic argument to an experimental proof.

With the right Amp settings the Jaguars sound Epic. They have a very difficult to describe (sometimes percussive) strikingly Lovely plus aggressive Fullness that even Telecasters might not achieve as impressively. Did I mention also with a hint of Black Pepper? The Captain and Sweet Pete just "KILLED IT!" on these improvisations here. Rather cinematic and Epic even I Dare say.

Just got a CV Jag. A quality guitar. It has that Japanese Fender feel to it. Aesthetically pleasing, pretty much period correct, I think it’s better than some of the slightly more expensive Fender models. Very fun to play, tons of different tones to play with, a great buy for someone just getting into Jaguars.

I have a mim jag that I deleted the tone knob on the rhythm circut on so it's just like a pickup selector. I also changed the bridge to a hotrail and put some 12s on it. It is now my favourite downtuned guitar

I've always referred to the palm muting part of the palm as the side of the palm, but according to Quora, it can be referred to as the ulnar, or medial border. Can't wait to tell students to use their ulnar border!
