LOL I was using a hyperbole to joke and not actually serious about you lot finishing second last, I simply think Arsenal finishing 2nd is very far fetched. To quote YOUR own club captain...Per Mertesacker, summer of 2016: "The way last season went, we were quite lucky to finish second," the 31-year-old told The Sun. "We turned things around at the end but it was kind of a miracle we finished runners-up." You in finished second that season when you should've finished 3rd and could've finished 1st. You SHOULD HAVE finished 3rd had Tottenham not blown it late in the season to Chelsea (especially this game), Southampton and Newcastle. You COULD HAVE finished number one in a season with no United, City, Chelsea or Liverpool competing for the title, but you lot fell 10 pts+ behind Leicester of all sides for the umpteenth time in a year. Just because there's a number beside it doesn't mean it's roses and sunshine Now that I've addressed that season I'll tell you why Arsenal finishing second this season is very far fetched. Other than that season Arsenal have not finished 2nd since the 2004-2005 season, 12 years ago. That was when there was no City, Tottenham in contention so it was really a battle amongst 3-4 main clubs but now all of a sudden we're supposed to expect Arsenal to finish second in a Premier League with 6 major teams? Next point, Arsenal's preparation and transfer activity has been under talked about how bad it actually is. Half your squad (no I don't actually half, but in a figure of speech sort of way too many players, especially major ones have 1 year left) has one year left on their contracts. This includes the likes of starting regulars like Ox, Sanchez, Ozil and Ramsey. Contract extensions have still not been announced and you in effect have until January before they are signed on Bosman contracts to other sides for $0. Yet you still haven't gotten rid of deadwood contracts like Jenkinson or Debuchy. Even if you could only sell them for the low, it would reflect much better on the annual wage bill having them off the books. This makes absolutely ZERO sense for a major and experienced (they've gone through issues like this before and this is not their first year being promoted in the PL either) club like Arsenal. Next point, You've only made TWO squad improvements in Lacazette and Kolasinac when teams that finished ahead of you like Liverpool, Chelsea, City have strengthened more and even teams that finished behind you have strengthened more (United, Everton, even fucking Bournemouth). Not to mention Kolasinac was FREE, so you lot probably wouldn't have signed him if he was still under contract at Schalke was it? I'd say last year your areas of struggle was midfield creativity and an airtight, consistent back four. Both issues rarely addressed or not addressed at all. Now throw on top a grueling Europa league schedule and from my perspective I would be very angry and nervous this upcoming season as an Arsenal fan.
