Use it all the time. When rough turning very wet/green blanks, I run the blank onto the woodworm screw loosely take the blank off and put a few drops of CA glue into the hole and rotate the blank in my hands. Usually squirt a little accelerator into the hole and let it sit a minute or two before putting the blank back on the woodworm screw following the advice Mike provides in this video

Mike, I use a large strap wrench to get my bowls loose from my worm screw, works great.

Thanks Mike, The item item I got from your video today was the use of a backer board/plate to make the base of the chuck jaws seem wider than the metal. That should increase the pressure/friction fit.

Great video Mike, the woodworm screw is a very useful tool and often gets overlooked by new turners. I use it a lot with tail stock support for initial roughing out the blank which gives me a little peace of mind with log blanks.

Mike, another way of removing the screw from the blank is to remove the blank and screw from the chuck but instead of using a wrench to unwind the screw, position the screw shoulder in a vise. Then you can turn the blank and apply a pull upwards to get the screw out of the bowl blank

I've used the screw a couple of times but prefer the faceplate. After watching this video, I think I was using it wrong and since the strength comes from the larger outside contact, and I was using a little Nova G3, I'm convinced I was using the screw wrong. I now have the 130mm jaws and will try again with a larger circumference contacting. Who knows, I might like it better than all those screws.
