Your channel and the info you have for screenwriting is a goldmine for intermediate screenwriters! "Beginner" videos are great, but it's difficult to level up past beginner general advice after awhile, and I feel the information you're giving definitely helps bridge the gap between how one can go from beginner to pro! Thank you so much, and I hope you continue to keep making these videos! :) They definitely help me have a greater understanding and framing on how to execute some beginner advice into a professional presentation.

I appreciate everyone that comments on the videos, but these sorts of specific comments are especially motivating. It can be tough to put a bunch of time and effort into videos without being sure they'll reach the right people or be as helpful as I hope. Knowing that they are having an impact on at least a few developing writers is strong fuel to keep pushing forward and reach as many people as possible. Thank you!

@@allenwroteon I'd love to comment and share more on your uploads if and when I get the chance; I truly do mean it when I say I feel like I'm learning and benefitting a lot from the information your share! Specifically in this video, I was struck by just how much subtext you can express when it comes to character titles in their intros! Emphasizing "COLONEL" in all caps vs the perhaps choice to not emphasize "Captain" in all caps to inform a little bit about what's more true to his character got the gears in my head turning! Any other video would not elaborate much past, "simply introduce a character in all caps upon first appearance," but your video proved there are many, much deeper applications and freedom of usage in such a simple, basic tool in screenwriting. It's definitely opened my imagination more! I can't thank you enough for such level of detail work in these videos! Thank you too for giving many examples across different types of films, such as showing live action and animated work! Animation and their scripts are often nebulous and far and few between, but I appreciate the level of care and respect you have towards them when used in your examples! I do also have to say I see the trend of screenwriting gurus and the like dropping only a few videos on a channel for maybe 1-2 years and then locking continued or elaborated information behind some sort of subscription or class paywall, (such as Word Dancer or Scriptfella) and I hope that's not the case with this channel. The more information you put out there, the better scripts will get and I'd still be more than happy to pay for actionable notes services since these types of video help vet for the service's legitimacy in being helpful and actionable etc. Please do know that the videos themselves are valuable, and I do hope you continue making them!

Good video. Do you have one on major characters that have their named changed throughout the script. For example, in act one it is Jon, in act two the name changes to Tom, and in Act three the name changes again to Fred as example. How is that done in a script so the reader knows it is the same character but just now with is different permanent name.

I actually do! I covered this topic in my Character Headings videos (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmG8iXmVZdNoorc) with examples from "United States of Tara". Hope that helps!

Hey Allen LOVE the vid. I was wondering what resources can you use to read screenplays and scripts?
@allenwroteon Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have links to a few website in the description of my Core Elements of the Screenplay Format video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3XFdHxofKhjodk) with Script Slug being the one I use most frequently because they make all of their PDFs text searchable (they go through the trouble of OCRing the document before uploading). If you are looking for a specific script, but can't find it at one of those links, the best thing to do is usually just search for it on Google with something like the names of the script + "script pdf" and hope someone has posted it somewhere (often to reddit).
