Have you seen my Hexpeak fly? It fell off my e-bike in Belgium 3 years ago. Thought I heard something but didn't stop. Luckily I used it with the Lanshan inner and carried that tent as well. Meanwhile I got a Aricxi outer (hot) tent 160cm high. Because it was cheaper. Held up well in heavy rain. 950 grams something. But a lot more when wet! Then later I bought a no-brand half inner 285cm long and 140cm wide. Not exactly for hikers. But on an e-bike the 2.2 kilo (with pole) is not a problem. There are other/lighter options from China you could use with your 4-season T-door. That's the nice thing about pyramid tents.

@drie wiel Unfortunately not, sorry xD Weight is definitely less of an issue with alternative transportation, too heavy for me lugging around the hills though! Pyramid tents all perform really well in the wind - I love the Hexpeak because of the strength of the flysheet. If 3F UL came up with something similar with the same or stronger materials, I'd buy it in an instant. I love the MLD stuff, but it's out of my budget!

Balancing between buying the 4a or 6a, have some joint hiking plans for next year and have to fit 2 persons in high windy country in the north of Sweden (autumn), but the rest of the time im solo and it feels a bit wasteful to buy a separate tent for just 2 weeks.

@@Iamkarlsson hi! You can definitely fit 2 inners, the only issue would be getting in and out 😅If you can deal with some slight awkwardness, you’ll be fine though.

This worked a treat on the WHW in February. It rained for 4 out of the 5 days, solidly, and with a good breeze (60mph gales during one night near Beinglas Farm, nicely funnelling down Glen Falloch). I think without the living space of this tent and now the reduced draft in the inner, I would have probably packed it in. Once the tent was up in the evening, I got into my dry tent clothes, was warm in no time and could do my cooking, prep, cleaning - all inside.

Ive put few mods on my Hex Peak, changed guy lines and made all my bottom ones to 7inches long so its all even when pitching too, fixed the same solid inner mesh with T zip also but in a bit different way, cannot wait to use it soon on my big walk! I going to do John Muir Way from Monday, 216km Helensburgh to Dunbar ;) hope no major problems on the way. Hope all is good with you too.

@@vvs3796 Hi pal, its long sold actually its was too much faff to set up and pitch compared to square/rectangular tents and when you are tired after long hours of walk its the last thing you want to do. I bought X-mid 1 solid and Im super happy with it and also managed to buy X-mid 2 for basicly half price on ebay for my family or with someone walks. I already used my solid 1 on West highland way, great glen way, rob roy way and southern upland way and survived everything, all kind of crazy weather I had on my way , that says alot haha

Durston x mid is highly rated and everyone seems to be in love with it..but I just feel it s still a bit too thin and flimsy with poorly reinforced spots for my liking.

I just came back from two days in the Pentland Hills. 40-60mph wind. The tent is amazing. That is the outer. With the stock inner, I was wondering if I had an outer tent at all. At least it was 4C. I cannot wait for my 4-season T door to arrive next week, hopefully before my solo winter WHW.

Love my Hexpeak! Another weight saving option for any time outside of midge season including deep winter is using a bathtub groundsheet imo. I have one from the Scottish company Trekkertent which is 40 denier and weighs 160 grams iirc, but they also make a lighter 30d version and 3F UL make a cheaper, less tough one as well i think. If i need to block draughts in serious sub zero temps i can also bring my PHD sleeping bag cover which keeps moisture off my sleeping bag, traps warmth in and reduces draughts. I personally prefer the more open feel - inners always feel a bit stuffy and claustrophobic to me and its also much less faff to set up tbh. The bathtub helps block draughts when you're lying down and keeps pooling or even running water from your sleeping bag but you could also save even more weight by using a polycro or tyvek sheet instead. It's not for everyone in winter though, fair do's!😀

Hello fellow Scottish! I am glad I found this video. This tent remind me of my Lanshan 1 Plus which I used on my recent walks from Edinburgh to Berwick upon Tweed and it worked awesome. The only small problem was a lack of space sometimes when I was changing or doing some stuff and making my mesh we etc from touching the wet outer walls. This one seems to solve my problem and vestibule is 2x size of my Lanshan, thats awesome. I think I will order this Hex Peak v4a fly since Ive got the inner mesh, footprint and other stuff to go with it! Cannot wait till they are in stock to order. Cheers for awesome tips and stuff. Agrees Hexpeak and any tipi style tent in general are much stronger in wind and for proper walks here around Lothian and Pentlands and other places in Scotland later on I need to be damn sure it works just fine! I have used my hexpeak 3 seasons now for hunting. I've given up on the floor to cut my weight. Overall I love this tent. I've been through bad enough winds that I was worried the tent would be gone once I returned to camp. It was still there as I left it.

Fantastic! Aye, they really are brilliant, might not get a good nights sleep if the wind is howling, but at least you know you're safe 👌 I've considered flysheet only for warmer weather, but unless it's windy there are midges 😅

Glad, you got it out :-) I suspected it would be that inner. Thank you for your work on the mods and sharing them. I have ordered the inner tent in advance / anticipation a couple of weeks ago. Still another three weeks to arrive. I love those big 9” nails but need to look into your lighter alternative. - With all the pegs (16) and the stuff sack, my ‘normal’ Hexpeak ways 1.78 kg.

Aye, mine was approx the same - the peg collection certainly adds to the weight! I'm seriously considering ordering some of the smaller carbon ones to replace the aux tie out ones (Sea to Summit Ground Control, expensive and utter garbage). However, I'll wait and see how these ones get on first. We're talking a total of 10-20g saving, haha! Getting the Hex down to ~1.2kg is a revelation to me, very, very happy with that plus all of the benefits!

Nice one. I've just bought a V4a, thanks for the videos. I had to get the fly from Germany, pole from UK and inner from China 😄. I got a J zip inner, 4 season. Didn't see your one, but mine does the trick and is 420g. Out on my first trip with it on SW coastpath this weekend. Have had it up and it pitches a treat - drum tight.

@@asclevas The Tyvek is a great shout, I use an asbestos disposal bag right now 😅 Maybe worth trying your inner pitched on the right hand side so that you’re straight in and out?

I have used small clips to attach the Hexpeak inner at half height to the outer (3 points). When those points on the outer are pulled out by guylines, it considerably increases the headroom in the inner. That gives me enough space at 6ft 1in. Again, not much wiggle room for anybody taller. I will get some attachment loops to sow on the seam of the Lanshan 4 season inner to achieve the same. I have a Lanshan 1 Pro which is big enough for me. So, I hope I can make that work, too.

Interesting, I might have a look into that. I found that if I attached the rear point you're talking about, it was very close to the flysheet, which wouldn't be great for windy/freezing weather, though I'm happy to be proven wrong! :D I do like the idea of expanded tie out points though. Fantastic modification, when they get the outer back in stock might use this with my lanshan inner. What is the rough total weight of your modified tent minus pegs and stuff sack? Might use some 1.5mm dyneema cord to save some weight on less important guy lines as the stock ones seem quite heavy.

Hi mate, aye, it's a belter! I'd definitely stick with thicker cord as it all adds to the strength under load, I reckon the weight saving would be negligible. Speaking of weight, the fly is 660g and the 4 season inner is 369g, a total of 1029g. In terms of stuff sack, I'd quite like to get a hold of one around 15l that has an air valve built in. I reckon the pack size could get even smaller that way! Just more money to spend though 😬

@@outlawedlandscapes , the only way I could get the T-zipped 4-season inner was to buy a whole Lanshan 1 Plus (4-season). The roll-top stuff sack that comes with it is super-light (same sil-nylon material) and allows you to press all the air out. £100 is a bit much to pay for just a stuff sack :-) Anyway, I now have a super-solid and much lighter Hexpeak but also an even lighter tent (sub 1 kg all in) for summer camps in good weather (I managed to get the T-zipped midge-net inner, too). - Time to sell my Lanshan 1 Pro. Even lighter in summer but does not cope well with high humidity / Scottish drizzle due to the condensation.

Do you know which length you got? The standard Lanshan inner is 210cm. The ‘Plus’ is 230cm 🤔. Great testing and adaption. Ive got a Lanshan Plus with both 3 and 4 season inners. So getting a Hexpeak Fly is a definite cost effective option for winter! 👍

I was unsure about the lanshans' durability, and unsure about the hexpeaks' weight, but this is the best of both worlds! thanks for the vid. Now if only i could find a 140cm lightweight carbon tent pole for those non-trekking pole days. I'm having a bit of a hard time finding that length. Any suggestions, or how much can you deviate from that 140cm length?

Hi mate, I'm glad you found the video useful! I've found that nothing less than 140cm will work well and I actually ended up settling on a pair of Leki 'Voyager' poles. They are a decent price, extend up to 150cm, are rock solid once extended and fairly lightweight. The only downside is that they are twist locks instead of flick locks - the latter are handy for readjusting height from within the tent when the material settles at night. However, I've also found that flick locks are more likely to sag as temps change. I know Ray at RS Outdoors used Komperdell poles, but they are like hens teeth and are fairly expensive!

The luxe pole seems to work well as it has a bit of extra length before the STOP sign. Still on the fence regarding seam sealing tho, not sure if you went down that road. Might try it out in the rain for an overnighter just to see if it is necessary...

@@Kenethica no problem, I’ve always just used trekking poles, as I bought the wee pole extender with the tent. Hope it works well for you 😀 In terms of seam sealing, I did mine, though it takes a good bit of care. Bob at backpacking light has a good video on the subject. I found that (pre sealing) the tent holds up well. Once it reaches saturation point I noticed the heavy gauge fabric tabs began to weep, so maybe best just to start with them. I did them from the inside as it was easier 👌🏻 Main seams were sealed from the outside though FYI

I managed to source the T-zipped version of the Lanshan 1 (long) 3-season inner from AliExpress. £50 shipped to the UK including customs duty. Took two weeks. It weighs 370 g, a 200 g saving on the Hexpeak stock inner. The T-zip adds 40 g to the J-zip which is explained in the video here, is on the wrong side.

Hi mate, I bought the inner you recommended, but I will be honest.. despite slowing your video to x0.25 speed, I don't think I have the ingenuity to set it up the way you have. I mucked about with just some bungy and although the bathtub wasn't perfect (never was with the old inner either) I think it might be ok for the single overnighters. What do you think? Also, how the feck did you repurpose the original line locks!? They are a sealed unit. I've been using others tents for the last year, so I'm looking forward to getting this out again, with the reduced weight. Oh, the pegs you mentioned, I just got the 15cm ones, but wow!! Not seen a vid from you in a while, hope you're ok?

There's a hexpeak with snow bellows, though I'm not sure how breathable that would be 😬😅

So is this a Hexapeak fly and lanshan up 4 season inner ? Currently have the Terra Nova pioneer and not convinced ! For the money this looks brilliant especially as an outer first, but I’m not sure I could sort the modifications ?? 🫤 do use use a standard trekking pole ?

Haha 😛 I have a “how to pitch a Hexpeak” video that covers the mods too. It’s not as difficult as it may seem 🙂 For these tents you’ll need a pole that’s 140cm+. You can get a pole extender from backpacking light, but a dedicated pole is better in my experience.
