It's crazy but I still have the old wet/dry sump system with old skimmer and everything is kicking. Some may say that this tech will make it more effortless but I guess that depends on what generation you're from. Bottom line though, it all takes work.

Set up the Apex Pro and run it for a few weeks. You'll probably decide you don't need the probe. The LLS does a great job of monitoring return pump chamber changes. As long as the return pump chamber is steady, it's very likely that your salinity hasn't changed.

We need a setup video... I just got mine and the app is still showing so much old hardware that it makes it so confusing for setup that now im stuck. Cant get the Leak Detection to connect and I have a control box from Adaptive Reef that I cant find the task for. Seeing how all this is set up would make life much easier. Even their manuals are so outdated for this price of equipment, thought they would be updated for this.

Sorry Thomas I may have missed it but how exactly does the system monitor salinity instead of having a salinity probe?

There is no salinity probe on this particular model. That said, the LLS (liquid level sensor) can give you some clues on salinity level in your tank if you place it in the return chamber of your sump. That said, there is still a salinity probe port on this system, so you can easily add one if you wish to do so.

@@BRStv Great because I totally get that keeping the return chamber stable will keep salinity stable but it would be good to know the initial value of the salinity for example after doing a water change as I mix my own salt so it’s good to know I’m pegging it at 35ppt (or there abouts) then the equipment and sensors can do their bit at keeping it there. All of the changes with the A3 Apex systems are within the base unit. FMM ports and new sensors are the primary upgrades. The EB832 has remained unchanged.

What measures salinity if there is no salinity probe now? The old probes were junk anyways.

You can infer a lot form the Liquid Level Sensor. Since the water level in your return chamber should be the only one changing, we can assume that as the water level drops, the salinity increases. If it were to go up, then the salinity should decrease (think ATO getting stuck on and adding too much water). Of course, if you don't want to go without a salinity probe, they're still something you can add onto the system.

Why replace the salinity probe. That’s actually useful unlike the orp probe. Makes no sense. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Salinity usually changes when the return chamber of a sump fluctuates in water level. When the water level drops, that usually means an increase in salinity. When it rises, that usually means an ATO overfill and an decrease in salinity. The Liquid Level Sensor is a way to get all of that information very reliably.

That's really frustrating... A truly downgrade when not including salinity... I know... the original salinity solution sucks in terms of accuracy - but removing this is a downgrade. I was expecting a lot more after years of wait.

Not to worry, the salinity probe isn't completely going away. The A3 Apex Pro will still have a salinity probe port and salinity probes will be available separately for those who wish to run one.

Yes for £225 in the UK !! also not sure what you meant by "being replaced with more useful probes" the A2 came with temp+PH+ORP and salinity ! so that statement is garbage ! also ... ORP... REALLY ??. I have just received my "pro" and had only just realised it did not come with salinity ! dont get me wrong, it's my fault as I just assumed that the pro would not be a downgrade from the A2. If I had known then i would certainly not have purchased it. As @umoraes stated, the salinity probe was rubbish in terms of accuracy but it was always good to give you a warning if something was going wrong@@BRStv

Apex fusion is not what it is. If you leave the switch on to allow apex customer support to enter your system they will destroy your corals and tank. I lost all my corals due to this setting. I had my Neptune system set up and it would change without me knowing and put it in dangerous territory. So please make sure you have that button off so only You can control your system. If I had to do it over again I would have never got any of this over price equipment. The trident is a joke with two A one B one C. I have about 20 A bottles which is ridiculous and they don’t sell them separately so you’re stuck with a bunch of A’s and nothing else. Wish I would have done it different. This is just a warning to let you know what not to do. In settings go to authorized users and make sure everything is off so that you can control your system. Please be careful.

You can use the EB8 powerbar with the new A3 Apex Jr. You'll just have to pick up an extra aquabus cable and power supply for the Trident as you wouldn't have a 1link port like the EB832 has.
