great discussion. good ideas for patching at the end. i really want to pick up a xaoc zadar envelope generator. i really think it would help add some more complexity to my drones and generative music.

It took me a long time to grasp the concept of ‘sustain’ in the standard ADSR envelope. It was only when someone stressed that the S stage is concerned with the y-axis of the envelope, while ADR are plotted on the x-axis that I finally understood. Practically, that has helped me a lot- I graduated beyond the basic Doepfer A-140-1 ADSR (though I would never sell it!) to the Make Noise Contour (strictly speaking an ASD envelope with a lot of outputs for various stages), and I’m just starting to get to grips with the Xaoc Zadar- surely a quad envelope generator to rule them all! As always, great information-packed video- thanks!

The “duty” knob on the Sq1 is really useful to generate different gates with different length I would say, with a slew limiter, it generates interesting basic envelopes…in that case I use the slew limiter by befaco. Thank you for this wonderful video again. 😊

For advanced envelope generation, I can recommend the mighty Mutable Instrument Stages (or a a clone of the module), especially when several are chained together.
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Жыл бұрын
Nice module indeed! And for sure chaining is a great and powerful trick. Will dive into that, as well as mixing and inverting envelopes in the next video! Cheers :)
@xavierxeon

@@MonotrailTechTalk I mean chaining several Stages modules. That way you can build for example a 12 stage envelope triggered by one gate input. Chaining envelopes is of course also nice!

I am not the hugest fan of stages for envelopes, they quite slow.
@linewizard

I will second this recommendation. The alternate firmware by Qiemem adds even more functionality, such as a random voltage mode, faster/slower segments than default, bipolar segments, and 6x DAHDSR envelopes.

Gates have an “on” (high) and “off” (low) state. They remain high for a duration that you need to sustain an event and go low when the event ends. For example, a gate signal can keep an envelope open as long as a key is held down. Triggers are short, momentary pulses used to start an event. They provide a brief impulse to initiate actions like starting an envelope, playing a sample, or advancing a sequencer step. They do not have a sustained “on” state; instead, they provide a quick “start” signal and then return to low immediately.

which module achieves that screaming sound through out the video? its beautiful
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Жыл бұрын
Ha, I'm pretty sure the sound you mean is caused by the filters! I did a video on the HP & LP filters, but to be honest I mostly focused on explaining the concepts there, over time I learnt to control them better, and kinda fell in love. The balance between input level, resonance, and distortion switches is crucial. But they have a magical 'turn-everything-in-a-raw-rumble' sort of power :)

Yeah, this is a bit of a test. I really like to do an entire intro to modular for starters. But KZbin isn't the place for it. this platform is better for fun ideas and patches. But am happy to test this, didn't do an envelope basics yet! Thanks for appreciating, even though something isn't made for you exactly, that's not something everybody on the web can do ;)
