At New York Climate Week 2024, World Resources Institute Africa, the Green Belt Movement, the International Centre for Non-Violent Conflict, Kite Insights, and LinkedIn hosted 'The Ultimate Investment Story' to spark bigger and bolder ambitions to unlock capital for a sustainable future and creating green jobs for the world's youngest workforce. This event spotlighted inspiring investment stories from African entrepreneurs activating value chains, creating quality jobs, and advocating for justice and accountability in climate action.
Featured were Wanjiru Waweru Waithaka, a creative entrepreneur and founder CEO of Anjiru; Wanjiru Kaniaru, partner at Anjarnwalla and Khanna Advocates in Kenya; Ivan Marovic, executive director at the International Centre on Non-Violent Conflict; and Wanjira Mathai, managing director for Africa and Partnerships at the World Resources Institute.
They discussed issues around the perceived investment risk in Africa, how to unlock finance at scale, decarbonizing manufacturing, and the transformative role of philanthropy.
