What resonates with you about PKM? Where are you usually living in the PKM Planet?

I have been using Evernote heavily since 2009. Do you think it’s worth the time and effort moving millions of notes to Obsidian?
@ProductivePM3 жыл бұрын
@@amylee9 I would look at Nick's and others' videos as to what you want your PKM to be. Is it to be used as an information collection of other people's thoughts or is it a note-taking application that is for your thoughts? Please look at the concept of Zettlekasten by Nicolas Luhmann as that is what most people strive for with the applications like Roam and Obsidian. I used/still use Evernote (and recently Raindrop.io and Zotero - See Bryan Jenks videos) to capture information but for the distillation of the information, I use Obsidian. Hope this helps . . .

@@ProductivePM Thanks for the feedback. I read the book How to Take Smart Notes and is when I realized Evernote is where my ideas went to die. It prompted me to look at other options, but the magnitude of my Evernotes make me wonder if it’s worth transferring or I should start new with obsidian. Thanks!

"PRISM" You'd have to drop off "Writing" which on the one hand is a bummer because all of this is about writing...but also maybe calling out "Writing" is sort of redundant since this is all done via written language? Nick, I have worked with your PKM, and it's great. However, it takes a lot of effort to get in and is easily lost in the vast 'ideaverse'. I am also teaching others how to set up a second brain and design a very easy-to-use PKM, otherwise impossible to progress. In daily life or work, busy people don't have much time for complicated tasks. The idea is to input easily and get automatic output. Information should always be on the screen to assist people in completing their tasks.

I see we went with the dashed lines after all. 😬 😁 Lines aside, this was an insightful video. As you discuss some of the points in the video I immediately started thinking about which apps each "realm" would prefer.
@linkingyourthinking3 жыл бұрын
Haha, for now! The no-lines version will make an appearance with the PKM Archetypes. I'm happy that the video triggered that thought. Now you've got me thinking about it...While most apps can do a bit of everything, if I HAD to put them somewhere, I'd probably do something like: Obsidian straddling PIM/PWM; Roam/Logseq straddling PMM/PIM; Notion firmly in PPM; Evernote firmly in PMM; Ulysses/Scrivener(and Bear?) firmly in PWM
@danielmmckeown3 жыл бұрын
@@linkingyourthinking I definitely agree with your take on where each of the apps aligns. I was rewatching your "Why Obsidian Overtakes Roam" video and it got me thinking about the connecter/databaser/writer persona. How closely related are those?

I want to know everything and I find Obsidian helps. But I also want to recall things by memory, which I find is helped also by rote learning. I’m especially interested in the way dvijas memorise the Vedas and the ways muslims memorise Quran. Not so I can replicate those texts by memory, but I want to have that ability to just recall whole passages instantaneously. Knowledge of everything. I read a lot of non-fiction books and I want to memorise the content of those books.

Is this app more for just writing? I am looking for something like Gephi (or NodeXL) that handles tons of thousands of nodes and you can modify values using the "connecting line strength", where hundreds of nodes connect to each other. Can this program handle something like that, or should I just stick to the other program? I wanted to combine my notes and the node graph all together somehow. Thanks.

NO answer 3) What is the benefit of PKM ? A)To understand yourselves and the world 1:59 B)To find meaning of life C)To memorise D) For reference in future 4) What is the purpose of distinguishing PKM into 8 seqments? I suppose it was based personal growth .

Mm, a model is typically as useful as what it predicts or explains. I don't think this predicts or explains very much - yes most people's idea of PKM will map to this planet in some way, but I don't think that is particularly useful to your viewers. To maybe help your expert blindspot a bit, this video is kind of like teasing us with a picture of an atlas. Yes, the maps we're looking for are probably in there, but a photograph doesn't do us much good.
