The Ultimate OTTO LINK Comparison - Tenor Sax Mouthpiece Battle

Squaring off head to head to head to head we have:
(1) Florida Link .100
(2) Double Ring .100
(3) Early Babbit .105
(4) Modern NY .105
Hope this is useful to you guys out there looking for a link. Funny enough the mouthpiece that I am playing now (months after this video was shot, is the cheapest one -the modern NY. With the right reed brand and ligature it's as good as any in my opinion. It didn't particularly like the reed and lig I used in this video.

Thank you for a great comparison demonstration! I agree with your conclusion, there is no such thing as the "holy grail" mouthpiece. A player searches for a combination of mouthpiece-reed-ligature that lets them express their music the best. We hear you play, and all 4 sound great. What we don't get while listening to your comparison is the actual feeling of playing them. So, the decision is really in the playing them for ourselves.

thanks man! i just bought me a new STM NY , i started thinking if it was a good decision, but after listen that comparison of you i know i did the right thing, my NY plays well in all register and i agree that it is not necessary to spend a fortune on a Vintage piece. Give the new one a few month and it wit sound just as good as an old one

I like the 3-Babbitt best. Nice tone. I have a couple of older STMs and they are edgy like 1 and 2 also. Nice for loud stuff.

I liked the FL USA the best followed by the fl Double Ring. Then the current NY and finally the Early Babbitt. Really nice full sound and subtle on the FL USA. Also really nice high register w/a great sound. I play a metal FL Otto Link 8* that I really love.

Sounds a bit sharp in the same way as my selmer signet in the palms, see if that can be worked out but otherwise great sound everywhere else.

An old mouthpiece looks way cooler. But yeah, sound wise they can all produce a good tone if you can find a good one.
