FF7 Remake is honestly one of SE better FF7 projects. I do think a remaster would be awesome but I enjoy the remake games for what they are, which is a very weird sequel/remake of the original series. I have experienced the original so many times so seeing a different take that makes me love the characters even more is a nice change.

So far, just going by part 1, I'm really loving Remake. and I'm looking forward to the next two parts. I know many people are now concerned that the game will start going off in a completely different direction from this point forward, and won't be FFVII anymore. People say the story is ruined, and the themes of the original have been butchered, etc. Maybe I'm setting myself up for massive disappointment here, but I'm just not ready to jump to that conclusion quite yet. There's still so much we don't know about what actually happened at the end. We don't even know for certain that Zack is actually alive in an alternate timeline. Was that even an alternate timeline we saw, or did Sephiroth find some way to mess with the planet's memories, making both the player and Zack himself believe that he survived, when he's really dead? Maybe there's another explanation that no one has considered yet, and all current theories are actually dead wrong. I just don't feel right declaring the entire Remake Project a failure, or a betrayal of expectations, when there's so much we don't know. FFVII has a history of deceiving players through the use of half truths and clever misdirection, so I'm not just going to take the ending at face value. I made that mistake in the original game when I believed Cloud's version of the Nibelheim incident, and look where that got us. The developers have said that they don't intend for the Remake to be a radical departure from the story of FFVII, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now, and wait for some concrete answers on what's really going on with the plot.

Great recap as always. I loved this game. There's of course some problems, but there always will in any form of writing. I think the only parts of this game I didn't like were the whole train grave yard part and having Biggs and Wedge survive. Lastly is more an issue with FF7 overall rather than just FF7R in that for as big a deal as SOLDIER is in this story they seem to just disappear after Crisis Core, and as far as I can tell/remeber the events there don't really justify or imply Shinra just throwing them away. I think Roche was a very weak attempt at addressing this, they even mention Kunsel and have you fight some operatives in game. Now my hope is that they actually did this so they wouldn't interfere too heavilly in shaping this story in Midgar, but now that we've beaten the Wispers the writers intend to bring in more SOLDIER story (Thinking probably with Zack, but I'll be PISSED if he somehow goes back to working for Shinra). Sky's the limit and excited to see what they do. Also as a side note I don't watch trailers and look for spoilers so if you already know the answer shut the hell up and keep it to yourself XD

Omg, at the end of the original Final Fantasy 7 “Sephiroth” had the power of a God by the end of the game, he split himself in two to use the power to rewrite fate meaning can save Aerith in seven seconds before the shadow Sephiroth drops down and kill Aerith.

When I first beat this game I immediately went outside to work on digging my patio, and the meditation of labor did wonders for me organizing my thoughts. I absolutely hated the ending, not because they changed things, which would be reasonable since they claimed it was going to be a faithful remake and it’s clearly some KH time travel nonsense. What I hated was that there are no stakes, virtually everyone we encounter lives and only numbers of nameless die off screen. Worse still is that it takes the game we fell in love with, that we came to re-experience along with new players who aren’t into older games, and it treats it as if it was the “bad ending” and only by doing it all right can we get the good ending. All the meaning behind the tragedy of the OG game is washed away in place of this kid gloves crap. That said, as time has passed, I’m more ok with it, I still believe everything I thought them I just care a whole lot less, and maybe what they do with it will end up actually being cool, but my expectations are shot. If part 2 looks good I’ll give it a chance but I found most of what they added to be mindless time wasting filler and most of the changes to feel pretentious, so yeah, happy to be proven wrong but I won’t be getting my hopes up.

I never made the connection but I can now see so many similarities between FFVII and FFVIII after watching this video recapping the VII remake. - Sefer is the evil dude in FFVIII (in the beginning) and Sefiroth is the bad guy throughout the whole of VII. Sefer and Sefiroth have similar sounding names inspired by Kabbalah (Sephiroth) and Sefer meaning book in Hebrew - Squall is a soldier. Cloud is a soldier. - VII is set in a cyberpunk fantasy universe whilst VIII is set in a modern day science fantasy universe - Both VII and VIII have military themes - Jenova is "mother" for Sefiroth and Edea who starts off as an antagonist is the mother of SeeD and all the main characters. - Squall is an aloof introverted orphan who can't remember his past whilst Cloud is an ex-soldier who can't remember his past - Rinoa is kinda like Tifa and Aerith. - Sefer is the sorceress knight for Edea, then for Ultimecia, whilst Sefiroth is a similar thing for his mother Jenova. - Selfie is the spunky goofy girl, Yuffie kinda has that to her as well. - Vincent is the sniper lady's man, Vincent is a gun vampire dude. - Ultimecia is a sorceress from the future and the last boss, Jenova plays a major role in the antagonism story and she's an alien from outer space. Probably got the details slightly wrong. But yeah. A lot of crossover in the story lines.

All I wanted was a REMAKE from a game called Final Fantasy VII Remake. Not an alternate history. Update graphic maybe patch some plot holes with some dumb excuses. And bam. Controversial opinion: FF7 wasn’t that good to begin with. It was a servicable game that many look back fondly because it was their first FF game but I played the original NES game I don’t have those memories clouding my judgement and it was the start of the horrible retro-futuristic setting which is hit or miss (a lot more misses)

I’m so conflicted still about the game. Like I play games if they’re good, regardless of whether or not the story stands up for remakes. But this one hit a nerve because 7 was one of my all time favorites. On one hand I see how it’s a reinvigorating story and all that. However the other side fucking hates it cuz it’s ruining the story in a seemingly fan service way. Like it’s OK FOR CHARACTERS TO DIE JFC. Stop obsessing over fan service of saving every loved character. And also the whole time play thing(the trope of future, present and last all intertwine) almost never works out. And tbh it didn’t work out in the first installment. Also I get we don’t know exactly what all the characters were up to before we met them in the original, but the whole yuffie gameplay and also the dirge of Cerberus villains thing is ridiculous due to the added specter thing of them protecting the “natural” timeline. Cuz with dialogue and all that in the original game, yuffie never definitely did any of that. So why didn’t the specters stop all of that?

I thought this game was wonderful and can’t wait for the second part in the remake series. For reference my first Final Fantasy was 4 back on the SNES (or 2 back then lol). Too many fans now days are easily butt hurt because the franchise “doesn’t live up to their expectations “. As a long term fan I disagree wholeheartedly. Every Final Fantasy (mainline at least) is great just in very different ways. Final Fantasy as a series has always been about change. If you don’t understand that, then that’s more on you than the games. Maybe go play a western RPG instead? Save the good and innovative stories for us people who enjoy them.
