I want to be very honest and there is nothing to be ashamed of. I am retaking the exam 🥺I have a voucher for a test and retake- just in case as I was very close last time and regretted not to have a retake ready. I think I was not ready totally last time. So I decided to make sure to take the practice tests and when I feel ready will schedule. I have a deadline already that by the end of October before the new exam is out!

I have a Security+ from 2010 before it became a renew every few years type exam when I did CyberOp for the government. I took a departure from IT to pursue some non-tech goals, and now in 2020 working my way back in IT. At the start of 2020, I did an MS Azure/C# type Bootcamp but felt that was more or less an introduction course. Any thoughts if I should re-cert for the new Security+, as in will I gain updated info, appliable to a job? My goal is Cloud/Analyst/Developer fields

This is a tough one. In general the Security+ changes about 25% with every new iteration of the exam (3 years). The newest exam (the SY0-601) is coming out this November so that may be different enough to warrant going for it again. I normally would not recommend taking it again but 10 years may be enough time that you should refresh on the new material. It is really up to you since you dont have to renew the exam. Maybe I could suggest studying the material on the security+ to refresh and learn the new stuff but then opting for something like the CySA+. Thanks! I personally don't have the Pentest+. I am mostly self taught / on the job learning when it comes to my red team operator role. Personally I think that the Pentest+ is an ok certification. It is pretty new and doesn't have much recognition but I have heard from many people that it is pretty tough and you can learn a lot. I would also recommend looking into the eLearnSecurity exams. Maybe consider the eJPT. This is an actual hands on exam that will teach you practical skills.
