Oil works wonders if you don't like using acid. Your shells came out great!

@@shellstoriesdoes it not have to be repeated though at regular intervals. When you have alot of shells that's alot of time.

@@lisaloy2011 I haven't re-oiled any of my shells yet (some are 5+ years old) and they still look great. It definitely takes a lot of time, but it could be worth repeating if you want to be sure they don't fade again.

I really enjoy this method of shell cleaning! Though my fave is still acid, super satisfying to watch the calcium buildup disappear.

Interesting, doesn’t acid damage the shell?

Wow thank you for the tip mine are all dried out and only look pretty when i put them back in water this will be a hobby for my daughter and i because i have hundreds of shells that we will need to apply oil too haha does any oil work or only mineral oil?
@shellstories8 ай бұрын
I've never tried this with any other oil so I'm not sure, but I think mineral oil is your best bet here. The transformation is incredible for those shells that dulled out after drying, because you know they have color that can be brought back out!

I have coconut oil I use on my steel tools, would there be any downside to using coconut oil instead?
@shellstories4 ай бұрын
I have personally never used it so I can't really give an accurate say here, but I would imagine it would work similarly. Definitely give it a go, and see if it suits your preferences. Thank you for watching!

Please don't take shells as souvenirs, hermit crabs living in the beaches needs them in order to live.
