The installation is way easier than what I expected. Wanted to do a sound upgrade but the pinside posts were making it sound like rocket science. Might end up getting this to put in my Wick. Great video!

OMG were they really making it sound difficult on Pinside?! LOL... I like Pinside for some things but man, sometimes it can be a bit rough waters over there... haha. I agree with you, the install is very easy and the instructions are easy to follow as well. Funny you mentioned putting a kit in your wick, I'm contemplating that as well. That soundtrack is bass heavy so I'm sure it would sound really good! Thanks so much for watching!

@@RetroRalph I could see the DIY or Knockout+ amp upgrade offerings being more involved (mostly related to wire routing), but the PowerWave makes it insanely simple. The hardest thing would be lining things up if you have a game with an old CPU node board that has one less pin on CN5 (no woofer line_out).

Yeah, I've got pinwoofer in all 5 of mine. I highly recommend the separate self powered sub. Got 12" ones under all my pins. Just put one on Black Knight this week. Absolutely incredible. But the boom and clarity on Jaws, Jurassic, and Godzilla is awesome. My favorite my be Stranger, the slober and fire and tons of other things you hear is fantastic.

I have pinwoofer speakers and amp plus external sub in rush and bkso- they sound so awesome. Night and day difference, then just the stock speakers. The music is clean, which makes the game so much better, and the bass sounds incredible. Try it and I'm sure you will like it if you like great sound... I will be putting another set in my foo fighters this fall...

I just bought a G70 at CLE PIN. I should have it in two weeks according to distributor. Before I watched this video, i actually ordered the Spike Super Kit. This video just helps in making me more excited to get my game. What are the must have mods in G70, since the black and white might make a difference with some of them? Thanks!

@@RetroRalph I personally like the red rings. I feel the expression lights may add too much reflecting in the glass. Unless your Invisaglass mutes it completely then I’d say go for it. I just prefer LE type look with the colored rings. I just finished my 350th game and added mylar to drain hole and shooter lane. Added plastic protectors on the in-lanes and slingshots. I applied a coat of wax with this amazing stuff called Liquid Lustre. Makes the playfield glimmer brand new again.

Did the install instructions suggest taking out the mesh below the 8" sub? If the mesh is too dense, I could see that affecting the movement of air. Clarity over volume would definitely drive my buying decision. Half the time I need to keep the volume down to not disturb the whole house, so hearing the nuances in the soundtrack is definitely what impresses me. Great idea to film the reaction of an (unexpecting) 3rd party participant. I sent a couple questions to Dan at PinWoofer, but maybe the webpage's "Contact Us" submission didn't go through. Ralph, you mention extra brackets. Did you need anything not included with the PowerWave Super Kit? I see he also has an optional bracket that is compatible with the official Stern lighting kit, but I thought the kit included required brackets/cables. I'm hoping the stock amplifier is one of the things Stern addresses with Spike3. Even if they do, I'm sure there will be room to improve. Bumping the power supply (and quiet internal fan), WiFi 5/6 support with a better dongle/antenna, and CPU node processing power are a few of the other things that are 'must address', I think.

Hey bud, taking the mesh out actually is more to avoid the mesh rattling against the subwoofer when you have it really cranked up. The clairty is amazing when using the PinWoofer speakers in conjunction with the kit. You notice the difference even at lower volumes. It's a much richer overall sound and details in the soundtrack are a lot more prominent. I liked it so much that I bought a kit for JAWS! Everything you need is included in the kit and when you order, if you have a game with expression lights, there are options for that as well. Just make sure when you order you specify the game and answer all the questions to ensure your kits ships with everything that's needed. Thanks for watching brother! I can't say enough good things about this kit, I wish I knew about it sooner because I'm soon going to have a stockpile of Boom Boom 3000 subwoofers... LOL. On a side note, it doesn't sound bad with the boom boom and the Powerwave but it's SOOOOOOOO much better with Dan's subwoofer that it's well worth investing a little extra for the entire kit IMO.

@@RetroRalph I'd think the spacer should allow the cone to travel freely, but that does guarantee nothing is in the way. Pack the BoomBooms in your luggage for Expo and set up a "RetroRalph's Retro Resale" table. :) TSA will be cool with it going through the scanners... Pinball Life's (and everyone's favorite dub step pinball designer) Scott Danesi replied in an email that the Kenwood/Boom Booms combination weren't necessarily audiophile grade, but they were drastically better than stock offering at a very reasonable price point and worked well with the stock amp. Now I'm afraid that you're just too darn loud...

I guess it's good to see the Pinwoofer guys move beyond rebadged aliexpress amps and $20 Pyle speakers. They fill a niche for people who don't want to roll their own. Now if they would just stop the scummy advertising in the DIY audio upgrade thread on Pinside...

Yes, this is a significant departure from that; this is all designed hardware (the Powerwave amp) and it’s very high quality. I liked it so much that I’m buying a few for the other games in my collection. The PW speakers are a great complement to the amp as well-much better than the Stern LE Kenwoods and the Boom Boom 3000 subwoofer. Although the Boom Boom sounded pretty good with the amp, the dual voice coil PW subwoofer is exceptionally clean when you drive it hard.
