I often find myself doing this as I haven’t got a choice. I stop somewhere during a lunch stop while out on company business. Brick Lane is by far more interesting than most places I end up though… Great video.

I was at a seasonal event yesterday. No keepers. Oh well. I had fun. Saw some art by local artists. There's another even this coming weekend. Perhaps I'll do better.

Thanks Scott. Glad you had fun. It’s not always easy to come away with keepers. It happens to me and many other photographers I’ve studied. Here’s hoping your next one is better for you. Thanks for your support, as always 👍

Great video as always! Amateur question here with regards to crop modes, as the crop modes drop the mp of the camera, wouldn't it be better to shoot in 28mm equivalent and crop in post? Are there downsides to that? An obvious downside being the lack of ability to frame the shots as well. Cheers 😁
@joeredski9 күн бұрын
Thanks, man. I appreciate your support. What you said is exactly right-there is a drop in megapixels when you use the crop modes, but I don’t notice any significant difference in quality at all, really. Like you said, the problem with shooting at 28mm is the framing. 28mm is very wide, and it can be tricky to see the exact composition I’m looking for in the moment, especially if I want a close-up of a subject. This is where in-camera crop modes come in handy for me-they help me frame more precisely while shooting. Of course, cropping in post retains the full resolution initially, but framing at 28mm on location can still make it harder to visualize the final shot. It’s a great question!

Cropping is cropping - regardless of whether you do it in camera or in post. Both methods disregard pixels outside the cropped frame, so the affect on MP count is the same. The only time it really makes sense to crop in camera is if you are using a crop sensor lens on a full frame body.
@joeredski7 күн бұрын
@@KILLERPOLECAT Thanks for your input! You’re absolutely right that cropping disregards pixels outside the cropped frame, whether done in-camera or in post. However, with these cameras, the in-camera crop modes result in a lower megapixel count compared to shooting at the native focal length and cropping later. That’s why shooting in the 28mm mode and cropping afterwards would technically retain more megapixels. That said, I personally use crop modes for the precision of framing my shots exactly as I see them, especially in dynamic situations where reframing in post could be tricky. It’s a trade-off between resolution and framing convenience.

@@joeredski Are you sure? I might be wrong but my brain is telling me that the only way that can be true is it the camera deactivates pixels inside the cropped frame?
@joeredski7 күн бұрын
@@KILLERPOLECAT The camera doesn’t deactivate pixels inside the cropped frame, but instead, it effectively uses fewer pixels from the sensor to create the cropped image. This results in a lower resolution (megapixel count) for the cropped modes compared to the full native resolution. It’s a bit technical, but that’s how these cameras handle cropping. Here is a link to the chart that I looked into when I started using the crop modes: www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/gr-3/spec/index.html#part

Is that an external shutter release you have attached to the USB port of the Ricoh? What do you have connected to the camera?
@joeredski9 күн бұрын
Yes, thank you for the question, it is an external shutter release cable. I bought it from Amazon it’s from a company called JJC. It’s listed in my description below if you’re interested. I also have a selfie stick attached to the bottom of the camera, as I have a disability and I can’t use the camera without one.

It is harder to achieve with graffiti backgrounds. With the few shots where it feels like the subject is blending into environment is part of the charm of shooting in a unique place like Brick Lane.
