my mom had a sulcata she found in Los Angeles in the early 80's . SHe fed it fruit and vegs daily, hibernated it and she was so social. she would sunbathe with me and sit next to my towel. When my mom died, my sister took her and she dug up the yard and foundation but she's still going strong.

What I really like about you +Kamp Kenan is that you're not afraid you admit errors and mistakes that you've made and learned from, for example the ground collapsing on a tortoise or one killing the other. It's really refreshing to see a professional and public figure such as yourself admit to those things and not pretend to be perfect, so long as you and all of us can learn from those misfortunes. Regards

This is the first time I am watching this guy Kamp Kenan and instantly, I like him. I find he is a man of honesty and integrity. Unlike other salesmen, all they care about is profits, but this honorable gent is one of the rare ones. He knows the type of turtle he sells is not suitable in the cold climate and he alerts his northern customers they shouldn't get the creature if they live up north, and he also warns folks about the long-term cost of rising a Sulcata Tortoise. I tell you, I can't remember when I have come across a decent fella like Mr. Kenan in my 50 years living in New York City! All the best to you, friend.

Very nice video. You mentioned that you do not recommend keeping sulcatas North of North Carolina because it gets so cold and they are harder to keep. I live in North East Oklahoma and that is very true. I have built my Sulcata his own building that he lives in during the winter time. Housing these things in Norther climates can really raise the cost of taking care of a Sulcata.

I love telling how our sulcata ate dried chicken poop and one time Buster found a dried dead mouse outside and ate it too! Also, we raised him from day old n always put water for him but with all the other foods, we watched every day and he just didn't drink water until one day, he was 3 months old and when I offered him water yet again, he drank 19 gulps, finally, and I even wept. Also, older Buster (at 2 years) used to sneak out the open gate (yes they can RUN when they think ur not looking), we lived in the vast Az desert and he would go into rabbit holes...I knew he loved it out there.. I followed his tracks every day trying to find him on the 40 acres. Because I knew he wouldn't starve out there, I waited. Once he was gone for 3 weeks, another time for 2 months!! They are the most sublime and intellegent creatures, extreemly theraputic to have around🕸️🕸️🕸️🕸️ You are a great home for them! I'm considering getting a new baby...it'll be a couple years before that poop just gets too strong to have indoors!

I work at a pet store in Wisconsin, so far we’ve had 2 Sulcatas for sale. I wish we wouldn’t get these though because just like you said our weather is way too cold for outdoor living and I doubt many people will actually have room for them indoors when they weigh 100-200 lbs.

Awesome video Kenan, I'm glad you made a video of this sort. It will definitely reach the larger community as a whole - people tend to ask me many times for a sulcata care video, but my audience is no where near as large. Very well done. If you're at all curious, check out my outdoor sulcata setups in any of my recent videos; will show you a taste of just regular old backyard living. I've also got a video of my 100lb adult male drinking water directly out of a pool my running hose was creating (I flood parts of the yard often so that they could do this). My herd is made up of 2 males, one of which is an ivory, and 2 females. I remember back when you had less subs than me, haha - and it's damn well great to see one of my inspirations growing at the rate you are. Keep up the great work bro, the hobby needs more individuals like yourself. Thanks again boss.

Hi! Loved this guide, VERY informative. My wife and I used to have desert tortoises, but after they went into torpor one year, we just never saw them again. Now, by pure chance, we've ended up with a free Sulcata and we've been researching how to care for it! One thing I can't seem to find is information on proper bedding. We have a wooden "Tortoise House" that we keep indoors now that it's getting cooler outside, and we've been lining the bottom with dried grass clippings. Should we be adding soil, and how deep should we be making that bedding?

I can't think of any animal that shouldn't have access to fresh water. Many animals should only have a shallow water dish to prevent drowning, but all of them should have some access to water and it's always better to have water than not, even if they don't normally use it. Purposefully excluding water is a bizarre (not to mention dangerous to the animal) recommendation.

Hi, I live in Florida and I was wondering if you're comfortable with people coming to you personally to buy? I've been watching your videos for preparation for a Sulcata in the future.

Beautiful Video, I barely got my lil turtle Yesterday and Learn so much just by watching this Video. I'm from California and have plenty of room for 2 or 3 turtles, would 1 turtle be ok by itself or would it need a companion?...
