I like the ion cannons because they can disable bombers focusing subsystems. Even if you loose dps you are still blocking your opponents from doing damage and making it easier for your teammates to focus the ship. Additionally you can really burn through a corvettes shield and do good damage against subsystems, enabling you to be more aggresive and objective focused. For that reason I also run the resonant shield which fits my playstyle better.

This is what I try to tell other players struggling against Bombers on defense. Even with a high damage build, you'll rarely be able to stop a rushing Bomber before they reach their target. Ion weapons can allow you to disable them and throw off their flight path significantly faster. It won't kill them as quickly, but they'll be more susceptible to teammates and friendly turrets. By the time they recover, they may not be able to redirect their ship soon enough to deal damage, and will be forced to either retreat or be destroyed.

Something I think many players don't realize about SLAM engines is that the even greater advantage over the passive boost generation is the fact that you don't LOSE any boost as a result. Your can prep your boost like you would your shields before battle, and then switch power over to lasers, keeping that boost constantly available when you need to make a quick push or escape.

I think the resonant shield has a similar mechanic and stops shield decay. In theory you could then with Slam and Resonant go in with overloaded boost, shields and lasers, as resonant shield also overloads weapons. That’s the loadout I’m using and I really like it

I like to run for the rebels supply droid and squadron mask and empire supply droid and tactical shield. I also like the ion shots so that I can murder the frigates shields so I can be more helpful to the team but I can also disable enemy ships giving me time to get away. For shields and engine the ones that they don’t decay so SLAM engine can’t remember what the shield is called tho. For the hull I go with the stronger hull because I Main bomber and am not used to the less hull strength probably not the best but it’s what I go with

Already shared on Reddit, but if you want to try a Support loadout dedicated to frustrating and confusing enemy players, equip ion cannons, targeting beacons, and the tractor beam on a high-maneuverability build. It's the ultimate Bomber-stopper. Tag with the beacon, ping, lock on with the tractor beam, and disable with your ion cannon to render them completely immobile. Teammates and turrets will mop the floor with them. Most fun I've had with a Support build so far.

Charlie, I admit, your time spent mastering support was time well spent. Have you considered trying advanced power management? You can charge lasers + shields, lasers + boost, or shields + boost simultaneously.

In any dogfight or fleet battle I go after any support I see with extreme prejudice. It takes away a lot of the Imperial plot armor and gives the New Republic the advantage. All the Empire has left after that is bomber camping.

Fuck me, the players are SOOO bad in this game. I think I've lost 10 straight dogfights flying imperial, going positive all but 2 games, one of which I was negative, and the other neutral. And it's not just the noobs. Soooo many players with levels in the hundreds exist only to give points to the enemy team.

Charlie, you should try out targeting beacons. They work well in the opening dogfight and on the defense against TIE Bombers.

What's your sensitivity and deadzones with Controller on XBox?! I' m not able to find a middle ground between being able to turn fast enough and not having my aim all over the place. I' m currently using the aviator scheme with zero deadzones, pitch snd yaw at 77, roll at 60 and throttle at 40.

Yeah this is my fav. One thing I want to mention is that ion cannons are a good option for rushing bombers or enemy subsystems. Tractor beam is also a good way of defending ships. The standard cannons do deliver good dps. Tractor beam - Repair Droid or Shield. The ION missiles are also great because the deliver a punch against enemy capital ships.

I prefer dogfights over fleet battles, so I avoid the support. In dogfights, flying a support is like saying "kill me, please!" It's probably not impossible to be good as support in dogfights, but easier to master in fleet battles.

Does the squadron mask prove useful for maps like the one around the space station?. I always figured if you have a good squad you can activate the mask fly through the station and bomb frigates or flag ships without being detected

A great setup for the U-wing as offensive for dogfighting is standard lasers, seeker mines, targeting beacons (to prevent countermeasures and deal one hit kill damage with mines most of the time), particle burst, reinforced hull, fortified deflector shields, and I've been fine with the standard engine. The thing dominates in dogfighting matches

For dogfight mode, I like the target beacons and shield. I use lasers on the UWing, and Ion Cannons on the Reaper.

I run mainly support craft and my loadout is almost the same, except I use targeting beacons instead of tactical shields. I feel it really boosts my points with assists and helps the other team take out fighters more easily. This works better in dogfight. I play more that than fleet battle as I don't have a good team to play with. I will probably try out the tactical shields for fleet battle once I get a good group to play with.

I think you should test out the marking of enimies. When marked they cant use countermeasures, which mean they have to run or tank the missiles. If you are running with a team you could all run multi missile.

If you're playing alone but want to have a good mix of anti fighter and support run the standard cannon, tactical shield, and tractor beam. The beam is so good for just stopping any ship on your allies tail or just any ship not paying attention to you. If you catch an interceptor you can easily melt them

I use auto turret and seeker mines.... Usually puts me at the top of the scoreboard. Its a really good way to take the pressure off your teammates and turn the tide of the battle

Would you recommend those slam engines for fighters and interceptors as well? When playing as the rebels it's a little bit harder to have boost charged up, so the slam engines sound attractive, but I'm worried about the speed loss..

Interceptors can’t currently have SLAMs. Probably for the best.

On an Xbox controller hold down X and then it will bring up a wheel, then move the left stick to the front or back to move shields. Just press X to balance shields.

I like the load out but prefer mine where the support ship isn't manoverwble but durable as hell with overshields and reimforced hull mixed with a guided cannon turrets and ion torpidos / tractor beam to make my ship into one strong turret
