Handmade wooden fins, foam stain, channels, resin tint.. most shapers would block that caller! You accepted the challenge and absolutely nailed it. Well done.. The fin jig is ingenious and thank you for showing us how you shape your channels. Great set out and execution.

Old-head tip for those glass on fins from a guy who's been building and repairing since the days when all boards had glass ons. When doing your patches up the sides of the fins, orient your cloth on a 45 degree angle to the base of the fins rather than at 90 degrees the way you did. Your fins will be less likely to crack at the base that way. I'd probably do a thicker piece of fin rope as well. Great build video. Cheers.

@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught 3 жыл бұрын
With a foam stain with resin it’s going to be a lot more compatible with the resin used for glassing. Gives the foam some extra strength over spray paint as well. Spray does give you less of a chance of messing it up. You can definitely do full foam stains.

Thanks mate 🤙 I glass the fins first with 6oz and then when I glass to the board I use the rovings and 6oz to the tip and then 6oz just half way up. @Shrednaught
@Shrednaught 2 жыл бұрын
Resin and tint. It’s probably won’t work that well with eps/epoxy. And you’d need to sand the entire board to get the resin to bond. That would leave patchy colour. I’d probably do a spray if you were looking for colour on the foam 🤙

Glue the fins to the board? Why not just add fin boxes to make fins interchangeable?
@Shrednaught

There’s a few positives and negatives to glass on fins. Glass ons add a different feel to a board. A more connected experience to plug in fins. Typically when doing glass ons I’ll make the fins to the board or board for the fins. Negatives are the obvious.. can’t take them out to travel.

What is it that you always roll with a roller onto all your boards before wet sanding? Gloss?

Hey Great work and a great video. What do you use for colouring the foam ?
@Shrednaught

Thanks 🤙 I did a foam stain with the yellow. So just yellow pigment mixed into standard surfboard lam resin and catalysed

Hey brother ! Can u explain what chemical adhesive do you use ? Or epoxy or something please ...
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught Жыл бұрын
Sure. It’s a spray glue. You can use it very sparingly because if you use too much it can react to the resin. Just a little mist to hold the glass in place

Hey man, love the videos. I was wondering what you use for your final seal coat? Are you rolling on resin or something else? Cheers
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a clear acrylic sealer used for concrete floors. It’s not the same as a gloss coat as it won’t fill in pin holes etc but it does leave a nice silky finish

If it’s on top of finish coat then any paint. But if it’s on the foam and you’re going to glass over it then you will need a specific type. Where abouts you located?
