I love Classic, I haven't played as much as some others, but this is the bits of knowledge I've grabbed from my time leveling and raiding. I do play Horde so I may have some Bias, but I try to be fair So I think my list would be: S. Human, Orc A. Dwarf, Undead B. Troll, Gnome, Tauren C. Night Elf S Tier: Human is pretty great and almost gets the S off of Sword Spec alone, assuming you're a melee of course. If you're a Caster Humans probably get bumped down to B, but for melee its incredible. I think the rep thing in Vanilla is a little overrated, not that there aren't important Reps to grind, but it just seems like a minor bonus for only a handful of good reps (Waterlords, the Naxx one, prolly another that im forgetting) and perception is kind of ass in Vanilla I think. Arena isn't a thing yet, just BG's and world pvp, which devalues Perception quite a bit in my eyes, not useless, but not super great either. Orc is also amazing, and I would put it in the same tier as Human. Axe spec is good, not as good as Sword obviously, but has its uses. Blood Fury is a nice little proc, no real harm done. If it had the changes like it does in later Expacs giving Casters the SP buff instead of AP, Orc would be the easy choice for probably every class it can be every time. Stun resist is game changing too against rogues, it will win you fights, 25% is a big number A Tier: Dwarf is solid. It gets pretty much all its value from the Priest racial, which is ridiculous, and would put it in S if it wasn't locked to one class (Imagine all dwarfs had Fear ward...) and Stoneform, which in my eyes is even, or worse then Will of the Forsaken. Just depends on what you hate more, Rogues or Warlocks. Undead was my first race, (Warlock) and is just great. Undeads are the stuff of nightmares to Alliance Warlocks, and to a lesser extent Warriors. Also Will of the Forsaken has more PVE applications then Stoneform, invalidates all Fear mechanics. Also Undead just look badass, more so Casters. Canabalize is fantastic for leveling, will save Warriors and Rogues some money, and is great for PVP taunting. Imagine getting fucking eaten after getting fear locked. Thats a break your keyboard kind of moment. B Tier: Troll has one good racial, one okay racial, and the rest are pretty ass. Berserking is incredible for PVE, making it BIS for casters for PVE. Has Niche PVP uses, spell cast speed isn't THAT bad, but when compared to the other Horde racials for PVP is pretty lacking. Bow spec is good for Hunters and thats about it. Also my fave animations in the game, for Casting, melee, healing, stealth, whatever! Fuck Gnomes. I hate em, so small and puny. They have some okay Racials, 5% int is good, and when compared to Human benefits to Casters makes them the BIS for PVE and probably PVP by default. Escape artist is kind of mid, but can be used if you're a Warrior against a mage, giving you AN option. Engi bonus is okay too. Tauren are underrated. War stomp has saved my ass so many times, people seriously under-value it. I would argue its the BIS race for Hardcore leveling. AOE stun, Extra health, bonus to Herbs. I mean its built to level! Bonus points for being the biggest and having amazing animations. Stomp is also great for PVP, little stomp into Elemental mastery - Chain Lightning will delete peoples. Also small Bonus for being the only Horde Druid race C Tier: Night elves are mid asf racial wise. I mean the stealth is okay in certain PVP situations, but I wouldn't take it over Stun resist, WotF, Stoneform, or even War Stomp. Dodge chance you won't notice unless you're a Tank, and even then its Minimal. Death speed is good if you die a lot, I guess. I don't know maybe I just don't understand, but Nelfs always seemed kind of ass. Lists like this do change a little when specifically talking PVP or PVE, although I think this is a fair mix of the two. I hope my Horde Bias doesn't shine to much here (Screw gnomes though, only good for punting) And I love your Content Kargoz, keep up your work, and keep pushing for Fresh Vanilla!!

Play what will be good for what you want to do. Take warrior for example. Standard best races would be orc and human, but Tauren is very strong in PvP with warstomp and increased melee range. Troll is the best potential threat as a tank. When classic first came out, I played dwarf warrior, and was dusting the other warriors in my guild because while they were all competing for swords, I had a crul shorukh, core hound tooth, and edgemasters handguards very early. At the end of the day, pick something that has good racials for what you want to do, and pick a race you like looking at.

Huge Kargoz fan but man this tier list got some dog water ideas. Putting troll above undead is criminal. Fear is the man mechanic of cc in vanilla. Having a break and 5 second immunity … cannot be underestimated.

I dont agree with troll being higher than gnome. Gnome has both pve and pvp bis racials. Trolls dont have pvp bis, unless you group pvp as a priest (curse)

Way to hard on Gnomes. They are both PvE and PvP BiS for alliance casters. What makes the extra int huge is the extra spell crit you get.

in Vanilla raiding, nothing rivals weapon skill racials as long as you use weapon to dps. Edgemaster = losing tons of stats.

weird take on gnome warrior. escape artist is so valuable when fap is on cd by itself.. but against a mage it will actually give you a fighting chance. being able to save the nade on the poly is a fucking banger.

Orc hunter is bis because all the racials are utilised. If only spirit wolves (pets) existed in Vanilla, then shaman would be bis. At the moment it's Orc hunter vs Human paladin.

Coming back to the game after 16ish years for a nostalgia injection - what's bis race for PvE Warrior tank? Troll, Human, or Orc? And which professions - mining and blacksmith?

When it comes to Hunter, I rolled Orc Hunter in 2004 and the stun resist was legit and memorable. In 2019 I rolled Night Elf Hunter and it was refreshingly different to be able to set up shop with shadow meld and broken tooth. I think people usually choose Troll and Dwarf for the Bow and Gun racial for Hunter. Tauren Hunter was popular in Vanilla, but less so all these years later when people understand racial combos between. Still as a hunter main, I may go Tauren next time for the sheer animalistic role play.

human way to high. perception is good in tbc because of the arena setting and how arena plays out, not because you can consume in vanilla with cats eye elixir and stuff. perception just isnt as useful in bgs and world pvp as in arena. not saying its useless, but stun resist alone is much better and ontop of that with bloodfury? which is also great in pve.

I don't disagree with this list much. But the questioning as to why Gnome is considered good to great by people comes down to Escape Artist especially when you play Warrior. I get that some people never play Gnome based on the looks alone but having played one myself once you get a taste of Escape Artist on Vanilla or even TBC Warrior you can't go back.

Is this just pve tier list? Cuz in that case no way Nelf isn’t the worst. If it’s pvp warstomp is so goated for Druid and shaman it’s insane. Free entangling roots, regrowth, lesser healing wave, etc. Even in pve like hardcore it’s an insane escape/CC tool, just can’t see Tauren being the worse

Gnome warrior for pvp feels so gd , that EA racial is only 1min cd, and is just insane for getting on a mage again or druid. But for pve i just dnt see it , i mean theres a few encounters where EA cleans the slows or gets u out of a root but thats aboit it. I think gnome is just strictly for pvp and thats it.

NE Hunter gets me to play classic everytime it's around and i love Tauren Prot warrior. Your ranking is legit. Classic + idea. Make lvl 61 to 63 available so you can kinda circumvent the racial skill advantages somehow if you choose too...other options should be available. (Human could go up to 330 sword skill in this scenario appealing to the sweaties!)
