The Ultimate Warrior's Legacy: The Good and Bad

The ending really made me contemplative. Warrior was a unique man. He said a lot of things no one should say e.g. the stuff about Ledger or the people of New Orleans but you can tell how bitter the man was. That doesn't mean he was a bad or evil individual. He said a lot of negative things about other people but he was not known for beating or betraying his wife/girlfriend or being a phoney. He was as legit as no one else in the Wrestling Business. My deepest condolences for his family and friends.

All I know is that I sent him a short email about having his Classics figure on my shelf, in front of me to inspire me to work harder to come back from a stroke that left me near death and paralyzed on my right side. I was told it would be about 10 years before I was able to walk on my own and I was doing it in about 8 months. The image and intensity he displayed in the ring inspired me to do it. I sent him about two paragraphs and he sent me back a five page email. I won't go into details about it because it's sort of my "special memory" of Warrior, but I will say that in it he told me that was the type of message he had hoped to send to people and said my tenacity to come back from the medical issues I had made me HIS hero. So to me, I know he had some views that others think are outdated but I'll always be proud of the accomplishments I made and that he took the time out of his day to tell me that it's OK to be proud of them and that I exemplified what O.W.N. really stood for. Thanks, Warrior and every time it thunders now, I think that it's you press slamming someone upstairs.

+acesolo I should have clarified that they meant without aid (Cane, etc.) I thought that was implied but I forget that people speak differently in different places. When the neurologist told me that she said "walk on your own" I understood she meant without any aid. Also, the US health system is awful.

I understand that awe and admiration for Ultimate Warrior, he was practically a superhero to everyone and was fun to watch back in the early days of pro wrestling, and even did some great charity work... What I don't get is why everyone is seemingly brushing everything that Mr. James Hellwig did after his wrestling career; he has done and said some pretty deplorable and awful stuff after he retired. I understand Hellwig may have been mending bridges and, maybe, regrets a lot of his actions. But, I don't think people should start painting him as a saint, considering he was far from one...

I was hoping WWE would have shown Ultimate Warrior Vs. Phil Collins as I thought that was awesome and funny. Would have been cool if they had shown his Brother Love promo with Amanda Ultimate Warrior and his match with Savage at WM7. As I really enjoyed those moments.

I could be wrong but I imagine the 6 man tag match that Solomonster mentioned from 1990 between the Warrior and LOD against the 3 members of Demolition was before the 4 on 4 Survivor Series elimination match at Survivor Series 90 with Warrior LOD/Tornado vs Mr Perfect/the 3 Demolition members

Warrior was a seriously unstable man...he believed his own hype a little too much, at the expense of other people. What kind of person says things like that about other people??? I believe at the end, he knew he was dying, that he got some kind of diagnosis that meant he was on borrowed time. And when you are faced with things like that, (I've been dead myself) you begin to understand that people matter, to be kind to people matters more...other things matter. so I believe he came to Vince (who is no shrinking violet himself) with this news and he sought to tie up all loose ends with people and let go of his hatred. It's good he got to do it...and he is very lucky everyone allowed him back.

The guy undeniably had an incredible charisma and fit in very well with the image of late '80s/early '90s Hulk Hogan-led WWF. But he was also quite possibly the most unprofessional wrestler in the history of the business, had zero respect for it and pissed off one promoter after another. Love him or hate him, nobody can ever say that Vince McMahon didn't give Jim Hellwig more than a fair share of chances. The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior DVD isn't a 'WWE burial of former talent', frankly it's just an honest assessment of the guy.

I never liked the guy ever and I was never a fan of his. I was always more of a Randy Savage and Bret Hart guy back then. If you ask me, the bad things he has done unfortunately outweigh the good things he has done. My condolences to his family but that's about it. He wasn't very well liked by his peers and co-workers either and he treated his fans like shit back in the day. Ted DiBiasi said that many times he'd tell his fans to "fuck off!" Bret Hart even noted that Warrior blew off a Make-A-Wish Foundation kid. How cold-hearted do you have to be to blow off a child dying of cancer? Sorry but I don't feel sad about his death at all. Call me an evil and insensitive prick, but I stand by my opinion on the guy.

Unfortunately Warrior had a notorious reputation for not being very professional and for not showing any respect to the industry and some of it's unspoken codes.
