Just watched this for the 2nd time. My inspiration for renovating a 100 yr old dresser. And I'm doing this at the tender age of 70 yrs old (not a typo). I even made a beeswax polish that has a rose scent that reminds me of my mother. I'm using it inside the drawers so that I can be reminded of her when I open a drawer. Thanks so much, Andy, for making me get up & do something!

Oh wow Charlotte, thank you very much for sharing this! I'm so touched to hear I helped in some way with your inspiration - and what an incredibly lovely idea to make your own wax polish with a rose scent - I'm blown away! Best of luck with your wonderful and very special project! 🌹

I have a similar story. I’m an artist that was looking for inspiration and I believe I’ve found it here on this site! I’m 65 and I’m ready to get started with a few furniture pieces. We can do this! 👏🏽

Hello Charlotte, I REALLY admire you, how wonderful that at seventy years young you decided to take the plunge and renovate an antique piece. I would love to know how you make the rose scent beeswax that reminds you of your mother. I am growing roses that remind me of my Nanna. You could even get your family to help you make a youtube video on it. God bless, Wendy

Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included kzbin.infoUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

I’m just starting out on restoring old wood furniture. As a single father with not much extra time I try to find ways to cut corners but I learned not with this. Watching you has giving me many ideas for some of my pieces iv done. You have turned me on to chalk paint. and I’m now using spray can chalk because I can’t afford any of the good stuff let alone one of the brushes. Any ideas. Love your channel and love the fables idea I’m a big reader and like how u fused books and wood. Thanks for all the good content. Me and my son love watching your transformations and love that u show us the numbers as well.

Thanks so much Jacob!! It's true one of the most challenging parts of this craft is balancing between quality work (which usually means lots of steps and a little more expensive products) and your time! Finding that balance and what worked best for me definitely took me a little while. 😊 As far as cost - there are a lot of less expensive paints out there that many furniture artists absolutely love! I've actually never used spray chalk paint, but I hear it can be great. Another line to consider trying is Chalked by Rust-Oleum. Best of luck, and thanks so much for watching!

Yes, I'm one of those DON'T PAINT THE ANTIQUES for certain. And I actually prefer modern furniture in my home but I have massive respect for both the people who took so much care to hand build the pieces, as well as the (often endangered) woods used that we just can't get anymore in some cases. However, when someone rescues a piece that was not salvageable without essentially rebuilding it AND treats it the way you do, that's entirely different. Some are for restoration and some for painting. The issue is the number of people who watch KZbin videos and run out and poorly paint (and ruin) perfectly good antiques in a way that will have them sitting at the curb in a few years or less. What's needed is more education around the difference... so THANK YOU.

I too have some repair work to do, on my second project. Andy has given me more confidence to get going. I’m going to use Bondo instead of the 2 part putty that I have. I’ve used it for a couple of repairs and it’s not as pliable as I’d like to have it. Working in small batches will be key, for me. I’m excited for your daughter, Sydney, to be learning and honing her craft. Watching these Fables makes this even more fun than it already was, for me. 💕

The quality of your refinishing and the beautiful colors that you chose as well as the lavender details on the drawer sides made this such an amazing dresser! Your storytelling had me captivated throughout the video, and when you said “with bones like these...” referring to the dresser, I was looking at your lovely cheek bones, and that brought an extra smile to my face. I am a strict purist when it comes to painting wood furniture especially antiques. I say never ever no matter what cover up beautiful wood (even on damaged pieces) with paint or change the finish of any antique unless that piece of furniture belongs to you or the owner of the piece has given you permission to paint over the wood and is paying you. It is gorgeous.

Hi! I enjoyed every 23 minutes and 40 seconds of this video. Sitting here on my couch all the way in Europe with The Fusion paint colour chart in my hands. Your video presentation is excellent, it was just like a little movie, loved everything, including the cat ,music and the filming location. If this is where you live you are very blessed. This piece turned out very nice and is ready for her second life! See you in another video

Boy, I'd Love to find a piece like this!! I have the smaller "cousin" to this piece that we bought back in the early 90's at a vintage store. I've seen larger dressers for sale over the yrs, but they've been so expensive. I'm still looking! Love that it's heavy & solid wood

Wow!! As a complete newbie I learned a TON! And just....wow! to the finished product. I too have an old, surface-ly ugly, dresser or two, with very good bones. One is a gorgeous, although frill-less waterfall dresser. Months ago I saw a dresser, and style I was certain I wanted to use. Now, and please don't vomit, scream in horror, and/or call the furniture rehab police, I'm super into the shabby chic. Or anything that doesn't look new. But again, this dresser of yours... It's like the perfect middle ground between shiny and new-looking and beat to hell. Much food for thought. Thank you, thank you and thank you! 😍 And I'm so glad this is a new video; I hate it when I find a creator I really like and they've stopped posting videos months and years ago. ❤️

And don't apologize at all for liking shabby chic - I know it will always have a special place in my heart ❤️ - but yes, this approach may be a nice middle ground! Thanks again for watching, and look forward to bringing you more in my next "season"! 😊

Thanks so much! I've never done cabinets actually, but I believe the general approach, tools, techniques, and products are the same or similar. (we've been on the brink of doing our 80's oak cabs as well!) So happy if this story helps!

We just painted our old ugly 80s bathroom cabinets. Wish I could upload a photo here. We sanded them well. Cut out the recessed part and put silver metal inserts that have a small repeating pattern--Moroccan flower? Then I painted periwinkle color, added antique glaze, then silver metallic highlights. Then did stenciling with a pattern that matched the metal inserts. Stenciling colors were a darker periwinkle blue and a dark green. Then of course added crystal knobs and nickel pulls. Turned out fabulous! Makes me think a a pretty jewelry box.
