THIS was the video I wish I had seen years ago. I love how you emphasize "wellness" that starts with your brain, and avoiding rigid unrealistic expectations, and the negative affect they have on mental health. I want to gently encourage you, to, if you feel so moved, discuss how you became both realistic and balance focused on the pod. I think focusing on the long journey of self improvement ( not perfection) rather than focusing on the experience of the ED is not only encouraging for those still stuck, but also a good balance of authenticity and responsibility. - but as always please put your mental health and journey first

For the record, I ABSOLUTELY want your theory on olives because I had EXACTLY the same experience. I hated them for most of my life, but then randomly tried them every now and then and suddenly one day I was like "YES PLEASE" and I've never looked back.
@tymondabrowski12 Жыл бұрын
Olives are bitter, people become less sensitive to bitterness as they age. That's also why kids hated brussels before 80s-90s when someone made a less bitter version - adults don't really feel it the same way, so they could eat it fine. So, kids being picky eaters are sometimes just trying to protect themselves from poison :D

I only drink black coffee at home because it's the flavours (I always add cinnamon in the coffee grounds) I like and I like bitter flavours. Even so, there are days I like milk in my coffee. When I buy coffee in a coffee shop I always need milk and even sugar because it tastes like crap. Everyone is picky about how they like food and drinks and that is fine.

What's funny is the fact that almost all of the comments here are ladies and one of the only guys had to mention the black coffee issue. 😆 I, too, drink my coffee black most of the time. My wife will only drink heavy creamer ladened instant coffee. [shudder] So, what I end up doing to brewing a pot, drinking half of a pot hot. Then put the carafe in the refrigerator. Later, I will drink the rest cold. Yes, I'm weird. I learned to drink coffee black to reduce the amount of calorie and carb intake. (Diabetics shouldn't drink their carbs.) But, I'll occasionally take it with heavy cream and Stevia. It is really only when the urge hits me.

As a person who has several severe chronic illnesses with the newest diagnosis being cfsme (symptoms that I first noticed started in November '22 and dramatically worsened in April '23- coincidentally both happening after having surgery and resulting CIDP exacerbations), the advice from my main doctors (neurologist, cardiologist and endocrinologist) has been to eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I'm tired and don't worry about the time of day that these things occur at. The thing that I have to focus on more right now is learning how to pace myself energy wise (physically, emotionally and general use of brain power) to avoid my body crashing and end up with a sore throat, needing even more sleep and a worsened vertical intolerance. The biggest change I've made has been to order my groceries for delivery from Walmart. As I've always been on the heavier side weight wise, the path of ignoring the time of day for when I sleep and when I eat has been huge for me and as a result I've been able to get back under 200lbs to my first mini goal of 195lbs. Im currently working on my goal of getting to (and staying under) 190lbs. My ultimate goal weight is to get under 150lbs even though with how I believe that weight loss should be a very slow and steady pace (ideally no more than 2lbs a month),it's going to take quite awhile to get to my ultimate goal but as I see it, I didn't gain the weight I did in a short time so it shouldn't come off in a short time.

Girl I am HERE for the black coffee rant. First of all, I have a sensitive stomach-highly acidic things make my stomach HURT, so already black coffee is a non-starter. Second of all, JUST LET PEOPLE LIKE SWEET THINGS!!! It’s not a virtue that you drink something super bitter and like it. A little milk in my coffee doesn’t make me a worse person than you. Why do these people act like they gotta evangelize black coffee??? Hop off it why don’t ya?? Anyway ilysm and am always grateful for your radical candor, about the trivial stuff and the important stuff ❤️❤️❤️

Ok, something completely different. I’m watching this GREAT video and my 6 year old son joins in and says after three minutes of watching:”I wish she was my mother”. And I understand that so no hard feelings. Greetings from two fans in the Netherlands 😊😊

I would argue that being authentic MAKES you a good role model. Kids (all people) don't need to look up to a perfect person--they need to look up to a person who is thriving despite messing up sometimes like EVERYONE does. Your authenticity is your superpower and it makes me want to be more authentic to everyone in my life. Thank you, Caroline 🤍

Isn't it crazy how harshly we critique ourselves?! And for what.. From an outsider looking in I think that you are extremely intelligent, you're funny, thoughtful, charismatic and beautiful! I really love your take on this trend.

Edited to add: Thank you Caroline for such an authentic and responsible video. As my rambling post shows, it hit on a lot of levels. I came here for the design content but I subscribed because of the intelligence, wit, and real life shit you are exploring. Can't wait to watch you grow in this new year. Thanks ! I recently had an epifany about frozen meals. I work outside rhe house full time have a special needs child and try to include many community based activities in our lives and balance the down time we need to recharge. I used to enjoy cooking but my child has intense food aversions and eats about 20 to 30 items. Basically the same foods every week. I used to be ashamed of the frozen meals I was buying for myself. Like they are not " real food" and if I was a " good mom" I would be making everything delicious and from scratch to help keep offering him foods to add to the rotation. Forget about the shopping prep and cooking time, its doing the dishes after the food has been rejected again that is overwhelming. It just all piles up. And after an ill advised 10 day attempt to " do better be better" in the new year during an intense work week all that avoiding buying and using frozen meals had got me was I was skipping meals and eating bags of chips while standing and washing a sink full of dishes at 11pm. I just bought almost $100 worth of frozen meals , as well as other groceries for hot meals, and when the checkout lady was kinda eyeing my purchases, i said " I work and take care of my child , and I'm not gonna be ashamed because I have to eat." She said " oh my god I know, I have a 7yr old at home, I'm with you" I said " I'm tired and I'm not going to be bullied by people's expectations of me any more" So that's the actual resolution.

thank you for being honest and authentic. :) even if I don't comment much, I can often relate to you both on KZbin and in your podcast episodes. Thank you so much for being you. I wish - you can see yourself as someone who loves you and accepts and appreciates you as you are. that's all you deserve.

As a person who struggles with body dysmorphia on a daily basis, who also had and has disordered eating, and someone who developed an unhealthy relationship with exercise, I thank you for your thoughtful and respectful explanation of your past and your current mindset. It is too easy to look at someone as beautiful as you and assume you have nothing to hate about yourself and wish I could be like that. Thank you for making me feel like I’m not alone.

The advice you gave here is so important to understand. And you definitely feel responsible AND authentic to me. Us millennial women are still fighting an uphill battle with body image, but creators like you will help us protect the next generation from the same struggle. Or at least it’ll help us address it in better terms. Thank you ♥️♥️

First off thank you. I'm 52 and struggling with a little weight and the pressure to be a certain size especially now that my daughter is getting married. Don't wanna be the fat mom in pictures. Everything you said spoke to me and helped me so much. You always have a way of expressing what I want to say but can't. Love you, your honesty, spunk.

Isn't it sad that we're pressured to care how "fat" we look in pictures? I'm sure you're beautiful. Also, it came to mind that no one says, "Ew, the father of the bride is looking fat." It's a pressure put on women usually. I hope you have a wonderful time being an honored part of your daughter's wedding.
@veronicahaleyeah Жыл бұрын
@@victoriaoliver9958 it definitely is a pressure put on women. My mom put the pressure on me as a young girl to look a certain way and because of that I always struggle with my body image. Trying to change that way of thinking is so hard.

I’ve never commented on a KZbin video before, but I just wanted to say - Love your intelligent and hilarious videos. It is so cool to see you voice self-pride for overcoming something that seemed insurmountable. Developing a healthy, enjoyable relationship with food is a huge achievement and deserves to be celebrated. Thanks for sharing and letting us celebrate (and drool over olives) with you. Hell yeah, girl!

This is SUCH a nice video. I don't have eating disorders myself. I've just now settled on a diet suggested by my nutricionist, and it feels really good. Simply because it is EASIER for me to eat the same stuff every day. I work from 8am to 6pm and the amount of energy I had to put in planning and preparing food was absolutely exhausting. So not having to spend that energy in that way makes me feels so much better. I am actually now spending that energy in exercises, and it has been so incredbly long since I hadn't done any exercises at all. Edit: plus, I don't cook anymore AT ALL, it feels like freedom hahahahah I just have lunch at work and two boiled eggs for dinner. It's amazing.

Caroline, I’m a 33 year old young in who doesn’t care about much, honestly am pretty darn chill, and land about exactly as you do. I have a huge history of eating disorder(s) that I continue to try to navigate with body image being that last pesky really hard part. EDs may impact my life for the rest of my life but I do have hope we can continue to evolve together. I can certainly enjoy life now which I never imagined.

As someone with dysmorphia and OCD tendencies it is really easy for me to obsess about food and "health". I love your everything in moderation take. It is a really good reminder for me as I am trying to do a healthy reset myself to not be too restrictive. Also I did black coffee for a long time and you know what? It is better with cream :)

i have been in and out of ED hospitals as a teenager/young adult, and you addressed what finally helped me feel free from my disorder in this video. the complete permission to eat the foods that are scary, the foods that you WANT, over time kills the fear of those things. that was REVOLUTIONARY in my recovery. allowing myself to enjoy foods saved my life. if i had seen a video like this when i was sick, i think there's a possibility that i would have found recovery sooner. thank you for this video, for your vulnerability, and for your responsibility (you balanced them all with grace). i loved your content before but i am head over heels for it now.
