Another great flight, Ryan! As others have said, I learn a lot by listening to your thought process! I know the ole disclaimer is that we shouldn't consider flight videos as 'training'.. but I swear, with as many of your videos I've watched for so long, and that you talk like a flight instructor, I think I could sit in the jump seat of the Kodiak with you and actually fly a few of these trips. But the P&G visual acumen required and routing and all the rest.. that's what takes a long time - of course. But as far as the basics of flying the Kodiak and radio calling. BOOM!

There are a lot of GA/Commercial youtube channels out there. A handful of those are permanently on my short list (blancolirio/mentour/gryder/bertorelli/mcspadden's air safety/etc..) This channel is special for me, maybe because of the detail I get to see and hear, the awesome situations I get to witness, but most precious of all, for me, is hearing the train of thought, in and out of the plane, checklists to landing and everything in between. I'm just fascinated by it and can't get enough of these. It's also interesting to me that someone can at the same time subscribe to a church and probably must accept some amount of superstitious nonsense (I don't get it, but I don't judge) and simultaneously fly highly technical brown-pants routes on a daily basis, -without- panic-blurting out a single reference to jesus/god (that I noticed so far). Anyhow, thank you for all the hard work.

Thanks for another great clip! One question I wonder: The grass at most mountain strips is always in perfect conditions like on a golf court. Do they mow the grass by a grass mower powered by gas and hand? Do they use frequently road rollers? Is it possible for you, that you create a clip about airstrip maintenence in this rural places in Papua?

Hey there, strangely T/O speeds calculated with 5400, even though the calculator showed 6400...landing later on again in the 6000 range...Could have been a bit slow on departure...? ;-) Cheers, good for all of us that worst cases rarely happen...
@bravocharlie6392 жыл бұрын
Good catch! I think it is probably a misstatement. He's apparently flown in and out of there before, so much of the audible checklist we heard was from past experience whereas the calculator was to be sure his wheels would leave the ground in the distance allowed.

I was once foolish enough to be winched off in a glider when there was a layer of fog about 25 feet thick. Because the sun was visible from the ground, I assumed the reverse would be true, Wrong! I landed my low performance glider by reference to airfield furniture showing above the fog. I was amazed after landing to find that I had landed back at my launch point. Never again!

4:39 Strange using both Metric and Imperial units for load calculations. Seems like a bad idea, unless everything is double entered, calculated, and cross-checked. That seems like a good thing. The load calculations seem comprehensive, but I see no mention of “Density Altitude” calculations. Perhaps the airstrip is so close to sea level, but it is not clear. You are only 19 kg short of max gross weight, in a very marginal departure. I would be concerned. At the same time, you seem adequately meticulous, you probably have done dozens of repetitions, and I should listen more and write less…
