Alan Jackson was my first concert in 2002 (I was 12 or 13). I was mainly there for his opener, Martina McBride, but he blew me away. I was a fan before but I became a huge fan afterwards. To me, Alan Jackson is the best of what country music can be. He has songs that'll make you laugh, songs that will break your heart. He has the honky tonk and the ballads. His lyrics are so expressive. I still get a chill when I hear Midnight in Montgomery. Everyone loves Chattahoochie. I think some of my other favorites are Monday Morning Church (the imagery!), So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore, Remember When, Where I Come From,...the list goes on and on. He's also the kind of artist whose songs grow MORE relatable the older you get and the more life you live.

Honestly “The Bluegrass Album” is one of my favorite albums of his. That album is what really got me into the Bluegrass genre. “Blue Ridge Mountain Song” is just so powerful and his voice really conveys the emotions of the song. Same with songs like “Blue Side of Heaven” and “Way Beyond the Blue”. And the other songs on the album are just so fun and pretty uncharacteristic of his regular stuff. I know it’s most if not all covers but I really love that album.

Jackson was in that class of new country that included Clint Black, Garth Brooks, Mark Chestnut, Randy Travis, and George Strait (along with many others). Lots and lots of performers that defined an era that brushed away the world of Urban Cowboyization of country music. It felt fresh and real and that I think is what makes performers like Jackson stand out.

This video is going to sort of be a litmus test about how much interest there really is in stuff like this. You wouldn't really expect this to be the case, but typically when legends are covered here, the traffic does not often justify the amount of work it takes to research people with such extensive careers!

I've always loved Alan Jackson's ability to both tell a story and give me shivers with his soft voice, but whenever I think of him I'm always reminded of Reba introducing him for something calling him, "Our answer to Bob Dylan". To me, that's who he'll always be. An amazing poet and story teller.

Mr. Jackson always seemed to be down to earth and humble. The kinda guy that’d pull over and help you change a tire despite his success. I remember when the Chattahoochee video released, it came out that the truck that was driven into the River had a swamped engine afterward. I don’t remember if he bought the truck or paid for repairs, but the fact that he stepped up to help that guy always sat well with me.

I grew up with Alan Jackson's music as a kid. My mom used to play country music radio all day. I had heard a lot of his songs while we used to play war or double solitaire with a deck of cards. Those were some of my favorite memories of her. So almost every song of his since the 80s and 90s has become my favorites. I still cry every time I hear 'where were you' on the radio or play it on my Spotify playlist.

I went to see Alan Jackson in Charlotte in 2019 and I can say that it was the coolest experience of my life. He told stories about his life and his songs throughout the whole concert. The atmosphere in that building when he played "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning" was absolutely incredible. I used to have a VHS tape that featured a few Alan Jackson videos, interviews and commercials he did back in the early 90's. I was struck by how down-to-earth he is, and comfortable he was with his band. I grew up with his music since I was a baby, and I watched his career evolve as I've grown up. I'm 25 now, and I always come back to Alan here and there and appreciate his music more as I get older. His music video for Mercury Blues is right up there with Dwight Yoakam's Fast As You for the coolest country music video ever in my opinion. Plus I think it's awesome that Alan was on an episode of Home Improvement! Thank you very much for this video Grady!

First of all, loved the video. Secondly, gotta say many of Alan’s songs have been the background music of many substantial moments of my life. That being said I will not argue with a person who calls Strait the king of country, however personally, the emotional connection to Alan’s sounds puts him higher than George on my favorite’s of all time list.

And the part about his music being the background music to many substantial moments in your life, ME TOO!! 😊 When my Dad died, I made a video with “Drive” as the background music. I’m 25 years old now and Alan Jackson is the quintessential singer of my childhood music experience. He is probably the biggest reason that I love that real country sound today and am so picky about my country music now. I saw him play with George Strait at Cowboy Stadium in 2014 and it was incredible! This video was so nostalgic for me. Great video about Alan Jackson! He’s been one of very few traditional country bearers of present day. I would also like to add that when Lee Ann Womack’s debut album came out, he was so impressed that he bought multiple copies and gave them to family and friends. What a class act! He reminds me of Waylon in some ways.

My dad probably never listened to a second of country music in his life unless you count the Eagles. That being said, I can’t listen to “Drive (for Daddy Gene) without thinking about him and shedding a tear. More than any country artist I can think of, Alan Jackson wrote and sang songs that expressed these very human moments and emotions in ways that felt both relatable and unique. I think the way Luke Combs writes songs now very much reminds me of the way Alan Jackson wrote.
