The Cambridge dictionary defines a band as: "a group of musicians who play modern music together." A band is the sum of its parts - one member does not make the band. Feargal chose a different path, those he left behind chose to carry on. Sure, he left a pretty big pair of shoes to fill, but Paul McLoone fills them well (in his own way). What would you prefer, the Undertones as they are, or a world without the Undertones? Feel blessed that they're still out there playing live music and keeping the spirit alive. Maybe, just maybe, they may inspire a new generation of like-minded kids to pick up an instrument instead of a Playstation controller, look up from their iPhones and kick some much-needed energy into youth culture. Heaven knows we need it after the last couple of years. Live every day like it's your last, and don't forget to Rock'n'Roll! 😎

It was good when I saw him with the Undertones… definitely couldn’t hold a candle to Feargle but he still gave us a fun set and tried. I’m glad I went and gave it a chance. This was over a a decade and some years ago at the least… at the Echoplex in Echo Park/LA.

I saw them at a John Peel tribute night in Norwich a few years ago (supporting The Fall), absolutely sensational, didn't miss Feargal to be honest. Many bands carry on without recognised original members, Dead Kennedys, Napalm Death, Metallica etc and are just as good...

These guys work hard to retain the original sound, John and Damien O'Neill , if Feargal dont wanna sing with them they have to go on with out him. Over the years when they split to form That Petrol Emotion then re-form The Undertones in between getting over there Dads Death back in 94 when it was John Peels 50th Birthday 🎂 Paul Mcloone sings lead Vocals in place of Feargal..

@@andysidnell8793 I think sometimes it's the singer that makes the band what it is or at least makes them recognisable...even if they're fine without. Stranglers is another good example, no Hugh, no Stranglers some might say. Listen to this or today's Stranglers and they both hold up. Some bands just aren't the same without that recognisable front man or woman though. Queen isn't Queen with Freddy but they are still good.
