So cool that he was able to import his dream vehicles. I know some places in the USA don't allow them on the public roads because bof the lack of a crumple zone at the front. Hi Chani, thanks for doing this segment on the Kei Truck. My neighbor has one that he bought in Japan and had shipped to the US. He had all kinds of problems with the State trying to get it licensed. They finally deemed it as a Recreational Vehicle, and thus it cannot be driven on an Interstate Highway. They aren't even legal in some States. We also cannot buy anything newer than 25 years (I think). I don't understand this and think it must come from US auto manufacturers. They are worried about a little competition. I've seen a couple of these for sale and $7,000 seems to be the average. I'd like to see these cars and trucks for sale NEW. They are a lot more practical than the big gas guzzlers driving around with one person in them. On a side note I just came back from a hike, and at the trailhead there was a new 4WD Tesla being photographed (for advertising purposes). I talked to one of the crew, and he said the car sold for over $90,000. I can't imagine taking that thing off road. I'd rather have a nice little Kei Truck. Thanks again Chani... I won't be so long winded next time.

Another great video Chani. As the owner of two 'grey' imported cars from Japan I found this one really interesting. The requirement to hold a 'tax invoice' makes no sense to me. Firstly, that term is unique to Australia, and secondly, a tax invoice can only be issued by a person or entity registered for GST. Otherwise it's just a normal invoice. If public service bureaucrats are insisting on a tax invoice, they are clueless. Furthermore, if they do not believe an aging, unregistered Kei truck cannot be purchased for $600 in Japan, they are again putting their ignorance on display. One only has to casually drive past any car yard in Japan to see how cheap used vehicles are, especially when compared to Australia. The asbestos inspection charge is, of course, ridiculous in its magnitude, but that's the way the Federal government operates these days. It may be more economical to use an established importer of Japanese vehicles, since according to various forums, only a very small minority of vehicles are pulled aside for an asbestos inspection. Keep up the wonderful videos Chani. 🤩

Not sure how much you could pick up these from a Japanese dealer 2nd hand but I wouldn't think there's too many 25yr old Kei trucks around due to shakken cost rises as cars age. I'm thinking that the Australian side was having a lend of him......valuing it at 3,500 AUD when he purchased it for the equivalent of $600. They just can't make up their own values on this so I think your friend/rello might need to do more investigation on that. He should have only paid no more than $100 for GST. I think because it was a small truck, is why they tested it for asbestos just incase it carried asbestos when it was a working vehicle. I would have thought he might've had more issues with the truck not meeting Australian vehicle design rules ADR27A i think it is, but apparently not. Interesting video Chani.

Thanks I don't know what happend with the black screen and now I'm not sure how to fix it 🤔

@@ChaniJapan It will depend on your video editing software? You could make this video private and then re-upload an edited video. I kind of like the 1 minute to think about your video and my life choices though ☺

Another lovely and interesting video, Chani - thank you. Oddly enough, one of my roommates in Ireland works for a company that brings in used Japanese vehicles. Last month alone the company sold over 30 of them. Seems there may be some rules - or incentives - about the age of a car that makes people sell them in good condition and still low mileage. I'll ask! So far, no Kei cars but I'll keep looking out for an Every. PS - thanks for showing us your OSMO Pocket 3 - I recieved mine last week and (while still nervous) I LOVE the look, feel and features. Have a great weekend.

It’s taking me a while to get used to the osmo but I think the footage is so clear 😃

@@ChaniJapan Your footage is fab. I'm trying to find how everything works - not as simple as it appears, but will be worthwhile.

I’d bet I’d the purchase of the kei truck was done at a used car dealership, the Australian end (valuation) would have gone smoother. IMHO…🤔
@dealman3312Ай бұрын
To ship to Kanada , vehicle needs to be 15 years or older. If the vehicle is 20 years or older, even if it’s a local car, before you register the vehicle, you need to have a valuation done as well, even if you have the receipt.

This sounds similar to my experience importing the same vintage Hijet into the USA - at least half the cost ended up being 'junk fees'.
@ChaniJapanАй бұрын
If it was just the shipping costs, then it would be a really economical way to ge a kai car but as you say, all the other junk fees really add up.

Good video with very practical information, but there is literally hundreds of Aus residents who have imported vehicles from Japan along with KZbinrs / websites. Your family member would have gained some clarity on the process instead of having a . for your family member customs/quarantine do take asbestos seriously and it is common practice to have the brake components changed. Thanks again 👍

7:11 $2000 for a asbestos check?!!😱😱 he must have felt like he was taken to the cleaners on that cash grab!😬
