I think they didn't only choose Nico because of the audition. Nico was in a german band called "To the rats and wolves" which had a similar sound and splitted up just before Sushi left. Both bands even toured together, so they knew each other before.

@aunderiskerensky2304 just the bassist of To The Rats And Wolves is in Ghostkid. But either way, when it comes to Sushi leaving to go do Ghostkid and Nico joining EC, it was really the best move for everybody. Sushi clearly wanted to do much darker stuff and Nico is just a damn good fit for EC.

The name change was done very well, most importantly because it was genuine and they were open about it. It helps that they'd made some vlogs so we were used to them being them, no fake image or overdone performance, updating us from "we got pointed out this is bad" through "we're investigating and making up our minds" to "this namechange is happening because...". Being open and honest about things is a powerful thing

Another note on their name change: They were very transparent during that process, and did a great job engaging with their audience throughout. They even had some public discussions with experts on indigenous cultures. Then in the midst of all this news broke about the war in Ukraine, and the band decided to change their name and wrap up further discussion. Saying basically: as important as this is to us and our fans, the conflict puts their issue into perspective. So just change the name and move on. IIRC they donated proceeds from their rebranded merch to organizations trying to help people in Ukraine.

I’ve never fallen in love with a band so quickly. It was actually so surprising to me when I found out they’d been a band for over 10 years already. The stuff they’ve put out over the past few years has to be some of the best sounding music (especially in metal) that I’ve heard in a very long time. I basically went bananas when I saw they were going to be playing shows in North America again

Let's add that SUSHI also developed as a musician and found passionate mates within his new band Ghøstkid. 🤟 The same way as I liked Eskimo Callboy back in the old days I adore both new styles now, the Electrics and the Ghostkiddos. Their split up was SO needed to bring out their adult/real (music) life expressions. Love to all of these cuties 🖤

I´m happy that a band like Electric Callboy actually exist. Their music is very accessible to the normal crowd, sometimes they have their occasional hard metal, but overall a band that everyone can listen to and laugh and smile. Not a lot of bands can do that mind you. And the fact that they are mature about their past songs and improving them in their new albums is quite dedicated. Yeah, i really like the band. This all proves that you still can make it big no matter your age.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the "fun" thing. So much of metal has become "bearded dudes djenting in a colored room" as you put it, or djenting in a warehouse. It got boring, frankly. Electric Callboy also understands the power of music videos and puts a lot of effort into them. You can draw a lot of parallels between Electric Callboy and Blink-182 back in the late 90's.

Fun Fact: They can also work extremely well spontaneously without much effort at all - the song Castrop X Spandau (featuring Kalle Koschinski) was written in a single day and they made the music video for that song the very next day. All was done within 48 hours...and it is really good.

Good to see that we can look past this desaster and notice that it actually didn't matter, neither for them nor the Metal Scene. Great video! was really impressed by the editing, more dynamic in a sense compared even to some more recent of your content. And your message at the end was important. I played in black and death metal bands for almost 20 years as vocalist. when my last band was a bunch of great moments to remember in 2019, in december i started to compose alone as a beatmaker. 3 years later, i composed about 500 tracks, and i was on soundcloud, a year ago i started using distrokid, to post more advenced stuff, at least better than my first material. and according to the spotifiy stats, my most listened songs, where miles away from beatmaking, i composed some tracks in a "space ambient" style, and i never thought i would have more success with 15 minutes soundsacpes completly in an , astronomy, mystical and philosophical trip, than my more punchy stuff. and that said your right Finn. It's never too late!

Could not believe what I was watching. None of my metal friends had heard of them. No radio stations play them. But there was 50,000+ people going crazy to that song. Now, they're on all my playlists and my wife loves them too lol she likes more alternative rock than metal but Electric Callboy's new sound reaches out to more people. The goofiness and fun aspect of the band was severely lacking in the metal world.

Hypa Hypa also blew up because of the Scooter song, which is a european staple of 90s Techno and the whole 'how much is the fish' thing is a huge meme in germany. So hypa hypa REALLY exploded in Germany and Europe and that gave them the traction to blow up in the US.

Ive been a fan of EC since 2011 or so, defintely a scene kid at that time. And they were one of my faves. though I stopped listening to them regularly around 2018 or so, as my music taste has moved to "heavier" stuff like Knocked Loose. However that faithful month in 2020 i got a message from an Ex i had in high school, who was a German exchange student. Which honestly, i can give credit to EC and WBTBWB for having us even having a realtionship like we did. So when i saw her pop up in my FB dms with HAVE YOU LISTEN TO HYPA HYPA? And going oh shit(as i did know sushi left). I was truly blown away by just how good and happy that song made me, and little did i know, my ex had moved to my home state of colorado. And well shes no longer my ex as we've been dating for more than a year now and i give massive credit for Eletric Callboy releasing that song. We were going to their show here at the end of october but yeah(cancelled due to nico having some health issues).. which really sucks as i bought backstage vip tickets just to meet these guys and well thank them.but ill get the chance in the future. we played on a concert together in their 'early' years, and i can tell you all - they didn't take themselves seriously at the time either x,) they would show up in animal suits to a full-on metal/metalcore concert x) and maybe that was just a one-time observation, but they wouldn't get wild at all like all the bands were chilling in the backstage-area, partying, drinking and smoking, playing music and getting ready for stage, while they kept to their own exclusive backstage-room till their gig started and left shortly after they were done (which makes a lot of sense when you're on tour tbh ^^) just my 2 cents to add to the entire lore =) would've loved to gig with them nowadays, since they got so fucking goofy i love it x)

I'm from a very small town in germany and I discovered EC back in 2011-2012 I think, bc my classmate showed me a Video of Muffin Purper Girk on the Bus home from school and i was instantly facinated. Before that I started listening to MCR wich is still my fav band, but I rarely heard Metalcore. And since then I was a Fan. I didn't care or even understand what the lyrics meant, even tho I was always the best in enlish class. But the music, the costumes, the people behind it totally facsinated me and I never stopped being a Fan. I loved every album, but my fav is still Crystals. But bc of EC i got into other heavuer music and the core scene especially that kind of metalcore was really hyped back then in germany and most of the fans were girls. And I discovered BMTH shortly after just when Sempiternal was released. Bc of EC i fell in love with Bands like that, and after that I got into darker metalcore like TDWP, Emmure and other stuff. But my influence cane from EC, Asking Alexandria, Attila and if I hadn't discovered them, I probably would have never started listing to metelcore and hardcore. Now i'm much more of a hardcore, deathcore, metalcore kind of guy but my heart still beats for emo and Post-Hardcore. But I got much more into heavy music bc if EC and I'm kinda thankful

I still remember when I first discovered them in 2010 with their self titled EP. Hearing techno style synth sounds with metalcore was extremely interesting back then. I'm not that surprised that this mix works on an international scale as well. But I was not expecting Electric Callboy becoming that big. I love it, but miss the small concerts by them. By the way. The name of the Town "Castrop Rauxel" sounds weird to me as well even tho I'm German lol.

As Inuk male myself from Canada, where my user name Half_Nuk comes from, their old name never offended me. But I was very happy and proud of them when they decided to change it. Their music I can't get into though. It's just not for me. Fun Fact: Inuk = 1 person Inuuk = 2 and Inuit = the people

Yeah, but when they were trying to book part of the tour through Canada their band name REALLY set off some woke MFers who really really didn't want that kind of heat from a thrash metal band's name. At the same time, they'd probably book An*l C*nt in a heartbeat. lol! So it's kind of a problem more from your virtue signaling white people in the music industry, the same ones who give no shits about the Saskatoon Starlight Tours fiasco, and openly bitch about "entitled" native kids up in Canada who get their first big checks as shares from mineral rights money, etc, etc. and go party with some of that money. Meanwhile, their own friends probably did the same damned thing when they got their first taste of money from their trust funds, and went off to college. 6 years of drinkin later, that got that associates degree in Business Admin. :D But the native kid who had a big blowout party at 18, 21, whatever, and then makes $70k+ as a welder now, well, that guys just a no good drunk with no education sucking money off the system.. Yeah, Canada's got some issues, no matter how "Woke" they claim to be up there, they put the sheetheads to shame when it comes to certain types of racism.

"And if you pay attention to the quote unquote metal KZbin, which you probably do if you watch my videos..." Me: Uhh, no. You and one other channel. And that channel plays metal music games Yours is the only metal/music history channel I watch. I generally avoid the metal side of KZbin due to the amount of gatekeeping and bias. Yours is pleasantly neutral and I appreciate that. And having just learned that you are a "marketing strategist" from your wiki, I'm now doubly impressed about what and how you do what you do

I remember being told by friends that they are playing on another festival in Austria in 2016. I didnt know them and didnt like them. But the song they showed me (My own summer) stuck in my had and i thought that it may not sooo bad. And the more i listened to them the more i liked their music. In my opinion they got less good music for the next two albums. But with hypa hypa i got so damned hyped about them. More as in the beginning. I met them and talked a long time to them. They even invented me to their nightliner after a small show in my hometown. (Sadly i couldnt take the offer) Now im so glad they are known all over to the US. I just hope they still play small clubs from time to time. Everyone shoudl see at least one show of them. They are SO good.

My first exposure to Electric Callboy was their version of California Gurls, at this time I also saw them live (I'm german). To me, it was a funny band with okay songs, so I forgot about them. The first time I heard about Hypa hypa, my reaction was about the same. That was the point when their better songwriting catched me and now I'm a huge fan. Edit: Completely on your side about We got the moves, that song is genius.

First time I saw this band was the video for crystals, which was a dark and scary video and song. So I was shocked when I saw the rest of their stuff lmao. Honestly Sushi leaving was probably a good idea, he can now write the dark stuff he enjoys with out having to do the weird mullet and comedy videos they do now.

Their renaming was something I really understand. Even back then I knew about "eskimo" being a slightly racist word, but after learning that EC has actually lost gigs because of their name I can fully relate. For context: the awareness for "eskimo" being racist is even lower in Germany as we do lack contact with northern indigenous people and the word "eskimo" was frequently used for these people. This habid changed even slower here because of this lack of contact. That may be because they were not very aware of this term being a problem, yet some german fans still do not like their decision.

Very good video (even though I think that they have older songs that are just as good as „Hypa Hypa“, if not better; e.g. Crystals). 👍🏻 Regarding „Is Anyone Up?“, I asked them about the meaning (when I had my first chance to interview Kevin & Sushi; and, yes: they were/are just as sympathetic and funny as they come across in everything they do). Bottom line of the answer was, that, of course, they don‘t condone the fact that someone created such a page (or that people are uploading explicit pics on it), but they also wanted to shine a light on the other side of that dirty medal: Such pics must be taken in the first place, before they can be uploaded. So, the message was: Don‘t let anyone take such pics of you. And I found that a very good and important message to be shared. I‘ll admit that I was already a fan, but that day I kinda fell in love with the guys and what they‘re doing (and I was convinced that, sooner or later, they would get their breakthrough - still, Sushi leaving was a surprise). That love has only grown ever since. Today, their music brings people together in a completely positive and fun way. Something this world is in dire need of (which is why I like to call them „the real-life Wyld Stallyns“).

I'm from Germany and heard first during the local competition to the Eurovision Song Contest from EC with "pump it". Afterwards I also watched the older videos of EC. Unfortunately, the German radio NDR chose one of the usual bands with "music suitable for radio" for the ESC, which ended with "Germany 0 points" as in the last years.

It takes time, effort and constant improvement to become good. You cannot expect that someone starts with something and immediately has a breakthrough. They are good now because they had a decade of practice, trying things and becoming better behind them. Instant breakthrough is not a normal thing, and if something looks like that there are often some experienced people behind in control of important things.

Regarding the drummer David Friedrich he did not also compete in german bachelorette season 4 and won the whole thing, he also competed in the 12th german season of "I am a celebrity - get me out of here" and became fourth place - Some time after the breakup with bachelorette Jessica Paszka he started dating Maxime Herbord, also a fellow bachelor contestant of season 8 who later became the bachelorette herself in season 8 after breaking up with David. This also created some buzz for EC around people not familiar with the metal scene in germany and EC in general.
