When Boosted appeared on the market, they were by far the best product available. Great performance, amazing durability and top of the line customer support. As the e-vehicle market matured, other manufacturers began to catch up to that level of quality while boosted basically stayed the same. They tried to introduce a budget version of their board but it was still more expensive than what the competition had to offer. Also from my experience, getting it shipped to other countries was not a pleasant experience. Having a ~20% import tax on an already expensive product and on top of that, having to pay $100 shipping was what ultimately led me to choose a different board. Boosted was often called "the Apple of electric skateboards" but unlike Apple, they didn't have the whole ecosystem of products to keep customers loyal to them. Shame to see them go but unfortunately that's how competition works. If you don't adapt, you're gonna get beat

When Sanjay left, the new, passionless CEO decided to support the super expensive scooter in a market where people are renting electric scooters for less than 10 bucks a day. No one was renting Boosted BOARDS. There was NOOO "cool factor" with the scooters. It's a beautiful build, but I RARELY saw Boosted Scooters on the NYC bike paths, I saw every other scooter. So, for Boosted to support that "failing" scooter so soon before the China Tariff war, it just knocked them down. Hopefully this isn't the end. I love my Mini-X. I'm an older, middle aged woman who uses it to travel around Manhattan and it's amazing. I really hope they can pull it together. P.S. About the scooter...IT'S FOURTY SIX POUNDS!! I struggle with the 17 pound Mini-X a little, but I can bring it into a restaurant, a store, a supermarket, etc. The Scooter is like a fold up bike, but it's a bit more of a responsibility than a board and I wouldn't even consider a 46 pound vehicle. That's not light.

There are better options for cheaper. China produces boards that are better than boosted in build quality and performance at ~$700 and boosted is no longer a great example of an electric board. E skateboards are great urban tools for last mile commutes in crowded cities like SF and NYC. If your commute really demands a car, then get a car.
@anarex0929
@anarex0929 4 жыл бұрын
Thats a resonable take when the board isnt water puddle or rain proof. If it gets hit by anything its dead. Ive had my onewheel in every climate, altitude. My OWXR has been hit by 3 CARS! Had numerous nose dives and the worst damage has been done? I have had to re thread 2 screw's that's it! That makes it well worth $1,800. Not having to worry about my tank braking under my hard use. E skateboard are to fragile. So spending that much money on a POS wood and plastic board is a wast of money. Give me my metal frame with sliders on any day over your plastic piece of shit e boards.

I'm currently saving for an xr I cannot wait! Think the thing that kills a booted board isn't necessarily the price seeing how a one wheel is 1800 however they did come out with the pint for 950. Anyways. The boosted is pretty much a 1 trick pony. Definitely not as nimble as a onewheel and there's no doubt you can take a one wheel way more places over more terrain / uneven surfaces / crappy sidewalks than a boosted board. Another key seeking point. Completely hands free with a one wheel. One less thing to lose/break. One wheels are basically bomb proof!

3 reasons for BoostedBoard’s fail. 1. The price. Not many people can afford a $1500 skateboard. 2. Influx of competition. 3. Lack of online promotion and brand awareness. @ytcontentcreators

They charged WAY too much. I bought a Lectric Longboard for like $400 dollars that gives over twice the range. They went for the Apple approach and tried to sell a “premium” experience. Unlike a smartphone, not everyone needs an electric longboard. And $1000+ for something that isn’t a necessity just isn’t viable for the majority of people. Especially when you can get something with better stats at a fraction of the cost

It always bugged me they never moved into an off-road board. A longer range board..there are cheaper and more expensive boards that give some variety of better range or better features that were more interesting. I chose to spend MORE on an Evolve board and it seems they're under the radar enough to have less knockoffs - and they aren't messing around with scooters so I hope they stick around of coarse. Time to learn how to fix all my own parts.

I think the reason they ended isn't that unfortunate because they were ripping people off! They were selling boards made in China for $1700 when competitors are selling boards also made in China with very comparable performance for $500 and equal or superior performance for $800. In fact, if all you're looking for is speed, Meepo, known for being the original budget competitor now has a board that matches a version 2 Boosted board for acceleration and beats it in top speed by several mph. It comes with two sets of bushings, tools, charger, stand, and an OLED equipped remote... all for the measly sum of $400. If I sound a little bitter, it's because I am. When I first got interested in electric boards, I bought a Boosted Board and was extremely happy with it. But after I wrecked it, I just couldn't spend almost another two grand to replace it, so I got the next best thing. I spent $600 on one of the "budget" boards, and it went at least 95% as fast, was just as comfortable, equally stable, and range was close as made no difference. But here's the thing: my original Boosted Board got wrecked by water and mud damage, however, I was able to take the cheaper board through a puddle (never did that with the Boosted, it got done in by much less), nearly completely submerged, and it handled it with no problem. So yeah, I feel a little ripped off.

I think scooter sharing companies killed boosted boards. The electric scooter accessible to anyone(in cities that have it) for a few dollars would probably scratch that electric transportation device itch for most people. The only people that would buy boosted boards anymore probably already have one or more.
@EliCamacho
@EliCamacho 4 жыл бұрын
Of course boosted boards is dying out. They're asking $1K for long boards. One of the reasons why people move to skateboards and longboards is because they're an AFFORDABLE option of transportation. $1K is not affordable for a skateboard or long board, electric or not. For $1K people can easily buy a used Honda, an entire car. And with that you get storage, shelter from the weather, security, comfortable chairs, space for multiple passangers, a ton more mileage, the ability to move heavy things around, and at the extreme potential for temporary living space. I'm sure I missed a bunch of other reasons to get a car. $1K for a car, a motorcycle, or even a high-end bicycle is more justifiable than paying $1K for a board with 4wheels, electric or not. At that point why would most people opt for a longboard? The whole business model doesn't work.

I gotta be real here, its horrible that people will lose their jobs over this, but lets honest, it was destined to happen... How a company can think charging $2000 for an electric skateboard that isn't even produced in their home country absolutely astonishes me. I have one and I wasn’t too sure about it and I will literally buy another one. They are so fun and everyone should give it a chance or try i t at a boosted location. For those comparing it to a car, stop. That is not what it is, not what it is trying to be, and it it is clearly designed for a different function to a car. Some of the arguments being made I could say for a razor scooter, a bike, or a normal skateboard. It isn’t meant to be a place to sit down, listen to music, or taking friends places. It’s built for riding. If I wanted any of the other things, I would just drive my car.

Boosted had a couple of problems: the skateboards were hard to ride and really really expensive. in places like the UK, the roads are not predictable enough to ride these things and they never attempted to make the proposition that these could be a viable option instead of bikes. Sharing bikes/electric rent bikes across the globe probably didn’t help and neither did the hoverboard craze that was way way cheaper to get into. one other EU issue was how legal they were, it simply wasn’t clear and they did nothing to address that. Shame because you couldn’t wish for better promo than Casey Neistat

Bad management. They were operating and spending like $1500 boards would be at a sustainable price point. It wasn't, tradewar or no, Xiaomi was starting to make boards at $500 a pop. Change was inevitable. They could have slimmed down, and lowered their expenses and become a premium niche brand and be sustainable, but venture pressure and bad management (not engineering) killed off a good product.
