These are handy to use and fun to make. What do you do with the bowls you make?

Another good post! Definitely a purpose specific tong! Yes I would like to see any tutorial you produce about this tong or any other you chose. Being a NewBe, the brain housing group is open for instruction!! Keep up the good work and thanks for your effort!

Hi Jayce. Great tongs as I like that version for many other things that come to mind now. Also, thank you for not tearing up my new cleaned up swage block and please quit using it as I'm patiently waiting on it to get here,,,LOL. J/K. Awesome video and lets try and get your channel more subscribers as I'm trying to get the word out. P.S.-Not sure if you knew or even use anything from "Kens Custom Iron" but he just passed away. I've bought many things from him and his site. R.I.P. -KEN ZITUR~

Good morning Chuck, have you used these tongs before? What did you use them for? Don't worry about the swage block, I'm merely breaking it in for you 🙂 Thanks for all the support, I really appreciate it! I didn't know Ken, but I was familiar with his business. I am sorry to hear that, sending prayers for his family.

Pretty sure holding a hammer like that (thumb on the handle) leads to long term joint problems, be careful. Cool tongs

Yes it is a bad habit, especially when that was the way I was taught in school for hammer control. Thanks for reminding me, I will try to work on it. Thanks for watching!

Jayce, why do you have your anvil so low? you prefer that?
@FarmsteadForge
@FarmsteadForge Жыл бұрын
Hi, my anvil is knuckle height, which is the recommended height. Because I'm a farrier I'm used to bending my knees to take the pressure off my back. I work around my anvil to take the pressure off my shoulders as recommended by an orthopedic surgery center nurse. I hope that makes sense and answers your questions! Thank you for watching.

Hi Jayce. Great vid and tongs, but would you consider making some commentary while you’re working…especially hammering? Us newbies could benefit from knowing when/why you switch faces. Thanks!

9:26 You either need your anvil higher, or glasses, or something, because standing like that is gonna kill your back.
@FarmsteadForge
@FarmsteadForge Жыл бұрын
It's the appropriate height for my profession. I am a farrier so I spend my day bent over far further than that. Thanks for your comment.

@@FarmsteadForge In my experience, that *particular* angle is hard on backs, farther down shoeing horses, and more upright are fine, but that particular stance hurts. I’m sure you’ve seen the old blacksmithing books that set the anvil height at the knuckles when standing upright and relaxed, and you are doing what works for you, I just know my back, and other people I know’s backs, suffer when doing it the way you are. Still, great work, and really cool tongs, I’m going to have to make some!
@FarmsteadForge
@FarmsteadForge Жыл бұрын
@@Vikingwerk It might be hard to tell in the video but all of my anvils are at knuckle height when I am standing upright. I think the reason it looks like I am bending over so far is because I have long monkey arms and a short torso 😂 but it works for me. Bending my knees while forging takes the strain out of my back. You should definitely make a set of these tongs, you'll like them!
