The game at 19:03 is known as electronia on the GP32 and GP2X and Wiz handheld gaming systems. Great game. It is extremely similar to what is shown here. It's a bit like tetris where you connect an electric outlet on one side to a lightbulb on the other.

Primal Rage 2 is pretty fun despite not playing as the dinosaurs. From the interview I saw, Midway didn’t want this competing with their latest Mortal Kombat and so it was shelved.

You do at least get three option for the characters, although the latter two are hidden - you can play as the Avatars that transform into the dinosaurs during Super Combos, you can play as the dinosaurs and transform into the Avatars during Super Combos, or you can pick a third variation which removes your ability to use Supers at all but lets you freely transform on command.

I remember seeing that police training cabinet on some news thing (or maybe tomorrows world) once. I remember that exact cabinet being shown, and the driver being asked to drive around safely while eating a bag of crisps, drinking a bottle of soda (which was rigged to explode), etc etc... Then repeat after a booze up.. Either that, or it was a fever dream.

would highly recommend chris tang's 2018 gdc talk about primal rage ii, there's a lot of behind-the-scenes info and he tells the story of a cancelled game in a charming and funny way, plus he also mentions a few things about other cancelled atari fighting games like cyber storm (it might've been the first fighting game with a combo counter!) and tenth degree, plus it talks about how heartening it was for him to see the game preserved and showcased at galloping ghost arcade, it's the prime source for primal rage ii info also, again, the connection between the e.t. game and the gremlins game appears to be based entirely on an atariage post that merely speculates with no evidence, is there any source on this?
@Kim_Justice4 күн бұрын
I swear that I've seen info about the E.T. and Gremlins games being connected that wasn't purely a forum post, but at the moment I just can't seem to find it anywhere :/ I'm now fearing this is a case of projection based on similarites between Gremlins and what the E.T arcade game was supposed to be.

If "Fishing Frenzy" feels like it should be a ticket redemption game, well, that's because there is a similar game with a similar title that actually is a ticket game. Difference is, it's completely simplified for little kids, with a cartoony style and cheaper looking graphics. It looks to have been made sometime in the 00's. I want to say it was produced by ICE, which basically is in the business of making kiddy ticket games like that. There's one at a beachside arcade several towns over that's on its way out.

For Freeze Puyo Puyo made waves and inspired many of its clones. Not its color-matching chaining play specifically, per se, but puzzle fighting games where the better you perform, the more junk you can send to your opponent. So it wasn't a bad idea for Atari to capitalize this market at the time.

'Hard Drivin' Airborne' had a well-used/battered cabinet in 'Wet n' Wild', an indoor water park which is located at North Shields within the UK. Absolutely, 100% sure of this, because I played it in 1998 during an Xmas School trip. I remember the metal floor in the cabinet being sticky, from all the soft drinks being spilt on it, and the sticky steering wheel. 50p a go, played it twice, and didn't like it due to the sluggish controls. But, it stuck with me because it's the only place I have seen or heard of it, until watching this video and memories came back. I wonder why that place had it, over my local arcades? Really strange how these things work out.

My friends and I loved Pit Fighter just for how grungy and exploitative it was. Leaving aside what you think of the gameplay, there's something utterly hilarious about trying to translate an underground fighting league, complete with hookers and guys in gimp suits, to a video game. It's the sort of thing you don't really see anymore because the industry developed aspirations of dull respectability.

Atari was such a mismanaged company after Warner took over. The 8-bit computers were years ahead of everything at the time and wasted (a 5200 could have been done in 1979 for example) older siblings to the Amiga no less. Looking at those late racing games towards the end though, why didn't they do another Pole Position using that tech? you'd think it was a no Brainer.

Dr. Sparkz is too hard to understand? Are you sure they didn't get a cease and desist from Taito for ripping off their game? Or did Sparkz come out before Cachat/Tube-It, which was 1993?
