I think it's how he thinks, like that's just Brennan loading. Every once in a while he'll be talking and then just be like "Phewwwsh" and get to the next thing. Some times the noise is unconnected to like any description at all, and he's just narrating and all these noises are coming out and somehow setting the scene. It's pretty great.

My only gripe with this series is the constant repetition of the whole “America is freedom” Vibe... from a country who hasn’t ever taken the actual public vote into consideration it’s a bit silly. I mean silly even for DnD...lol The American dream always fails to take into account the “we literally eradicated the natives for us to have these so called “choices””...
@liammackay4026
@liammackay4026 3 жыл бұрын
@@nat1baby that’s kinda the point. Despite all the fucked up shit America has done and still does regularly, for a lot of people, the idea of “the American dream” is still important. It might not ever be realised, and it might not be the classic white picket fence, wife and kids, and a golden retriever, but it’s still something to reach for. More as a symbol than anything else, but especially for a series like this that is basically a love letter to the biggest and greatest city in America

I don't get it, could anyone explain it, please?
@brentmantel141
@brentmantel141 2 жыл бұрын
@@fatim0nster That's because it's not really a joke, more of a reference. Siobhan's referencing a common notion that principles of hard work, diligence, discipline, frugality and trustworthiness (credit), are born out of the prevalence of protestant christian religion. There is some support for this, as christian ethics overlap with this concept to a degree, and most arguments against 'protestant work ethic' theory tries to dismantle it by highlighting the rise of capitalist success among Catholics. Christian Work Ethic might be a better fit for the overall theory. Spiritual Work Ethic might be an even better fit, as people's of any distinct faith are shown to obtain financial and social success at a higher rate than those who eschew religious faith. Just my opinion but I think Siobhan is a shill.

@Rosy2468
@Rosy2468 2 жыл бұрын
It's clear that you've missed the joke of protestant work ethic, as evidenced by the way you try to explain many types of christians work hard. I hope after reading my full comment you can explain how Siobhan is a "shill"... The whole joke is that the stereotype of the protestant work ethic is on its surface a "positive" aspect - working hard and with discipline sounds like a good thing. However as you touched on but didn't connect to the joke - most people's religions tend to encourage putting in hard work and "clean living" In the US and across Europe, the narrative of the "Protestant work ethic" aka protestants working harder than others and therefore deserving their higher socio-economic status was spread mainly by Protestants to tie themselves to superiority even if they hadn't managed to accomplish that level of wealth themselves. At best it's a pipe dream to make protestants feel better about how hard they worked for so little payoff but at worst, and unfortunately this was very common, it was weaponized as a moral/spiritual hierarchy against groups such as Irish/Latino Catholics or black Americans. Siobhans joke is her rolling her eyes at the toxic manifestation of the American Dream spouting 19th/20th century religious and political bigotry. She is actively mocking the protestant line that they have moral superiority. I am not sure how on earth you arrived at the conclusion that she is a shill and am dying to hear the explanation.
