7:35 - from my interpretation of this scene, everyone uses an umbrella when it rains, it's the logical thing to do and the umbrella represents the safe place lan zhan was being the perfect exemplary man by following all the rules so when he chose to put down the umbrella and go into the rain it represented his change as a character. Being as strict as he is, its in the rain that he lets himself accept the fact that he did something that is completely against who he tought he was because of wei wuxin.

I think it's even more than that. Me and my friend call that umbrella 'The Umbrella of Divided Loyalties' (see the pattern on it? Black and white yin/yang swirls, like Wei Wuxian's resentful energy?) He comes to talk to Wei Wuxian carrying a symbol of how torn he is over what's happening. The guys are totally right when they say Lan Zhan's not doing the most he could be doing. Lan Wangji has been taught to always obey the rules and sees things in overly simple terms (especially now after the war, when he's trying to help rebuild the Lan clan and their traditions), and that means avoiding anything morally grey and staying personally pure. Even his sword is called Bichen - 'Immaculate'. So even when he thinks WWX's intentions are good, Lan Zhan won't join in because he's not doing it through the official channels, and that might reflect badly on him. In this scene WWX is soaked in rain and blood, after digging around in the mud to find Wen Ning's body - he's LITERALLY getting his hands dirty to do the right thing. And then Lan Zhan turns up, completely spotless. He's even got an umbrella, so not even the rain is touching him. He gets to remain visually clean, but he's not actually doing what's morally right - he's a hypocrite. They have this incredible argument where he realises that he can't bring himself to stop Wei Wuxian (because Wei Wuxian is in the right!) but he's not brave enough to go with him and suffer the social consequences either. So he lets him leave alone... and it kind of breaks his resolve to stay immaculate from now on. He drops the umbrella and lets himself get rained on too. He's finally admitting he was wrong to stay out of it. His hands needs to get dirty too. After this point he starts to stick up for Wei Wuxian in public a bit more, but unfortunately it's too little too late.

Something to remember about Jiang Cheng is that he is the youngest clan leader. He's only around 19 at this point, and only just rebuilding his clan after they were massacred. He is inexperienced and in a precarious political position.
