I would say that Cinderella`s father might of been of been a good man and father. Because in the first movie, the narrator said he was and after Cinderella's father died, Cinderella's step mother true nature was revealed. Meaning that she was really and already selfish, cruel, cold hearted, and grown jealous of Cinderella's beauty, at least according to what the narrator said in the first movie. Cinderella's father felt like Cinderella needed a mother in her life since her mother died and past away.

Not counting the Villains series version, I think he did marry Lady Tremaine to provide a mother for Cinderella. I think his only flaw was a very poor judge of character.
