When he showed up in 74 Earth Wind & Fire blew up...Open Our Eyes, That's The Way Of The World, Gratitude, and much of Spirits before he died was their golden period...I think All & All was their best album but other than that the Charles Stepney contributed albums were their best works...I am was a major classic album but not as good as the above mentioned.

@@021881mtagree 100%. Maurice was a master at bringing others into the max and using their talents to max impact. After Stepney, he turned to others for melody, arrangement and co-writing. Still he was a Master Producer, which is really what separates EWF from others. All n All was an inflection point. After that EWF went totally Pop and used many many other talents for everything. When McKay left, a huge hole remained in writing, sound, production and groove. Then the malaise set in…however, i do believe that Maurice got tired of fighting the racism in large record companies that did not give them their due

Without Stepney its difficult to see EWF making the transition from raw talent to a fully mature entity. Maurice was a sponge and soaked up not only production but also melody and structure from Stepney. People need to understood that EWF was basically a rhythm band full of drummers and great singing voices before Stepney with no distinct essence. Stepney provided that.

When Prince first signed with Warner Bros. at the age of 19, they wanted Maurice White to produce his first album, but Prince declined, and the album didn't do well. Imagine what a collaboration that could have been! Maurice White and Earth, Wind, and Fire hold a prominent place in the soundtrack of my life. Their music carried me through so many trials and tribulations, and it gave me unspeakable joy as well. "On Your Face" is one of my all time favorites and still serves as one of my anthems to this day. Earth, Wind, and Fire will remain in my heart always and forever.😘❤❤
@mrmiggedy123 Жыл бұрын
Prince didn't want Maurice to produce his album because he didn't want his music to sound that way. He didn't want a EWF production. Businesswise, he knew black artists budgets and exposure were smaller than rock and pop from a label's standpoint. He also knew the black band sound was on its way out(as well as disco), which he was right. Earth, Wind & Fire's last big hit was "Let's Groove" in 1981. Consequently, they both had the same management so that was something he did get from Maurice.

@@mrmiggedy123 I love Prince more than the beehive loves Beyonce, and while you make some very good points, Prince at 19, was motivated by ego as much as he was by his music and retaining complete control of it. In any event, we all benefited from the musical legacies of both he and Maurice White.😁

@@queenlj12jax97 everyone has an ego. That wasn't it. Prince didn't want to sound like a Maurice White production b/c it would've put him in the black record budget forever. And yeah it took him 4 albums to get to his sound but it also took EWF just as long before they found their stride. I too am a Prince fan but I'm a music student.
@queenlj12jax97 Жыл бұрын
@@mrmiggedy123 I don't disrespect your opinion as a music student, but as a music teacher and fine arts historian, I am entitled to mine. Part of what made Prince so great for the good and the bad was his massive ego, which surpassed many of his contemporaries. At 19, while extraordinarily talented, he did not have the foresight for which you give him credit. That's why he ended up writing SLAVE on his face.

Before EW&F became a dominant force they came to Rutgers University in 1974 and blew our minds as young students. It was the first concert I saw a group appear from smoke on the stage. Listening to this documentary suggests the writer was reading as opposed to knowing about their great music and electric live performances. Their second album with the extraordinary artwork " Last Days and Time " actually has some of their best and most beautiful songs like "Where have all the flowers gone, make it with you, and I'd rather Have you ". Music fans who didn't know their work till later should download that album right now. I also don't know if the moderator touched on the fact that their live performances were as extraordinary as their music! He also missed some of the best songs like Reasons and That's the Way of the World on the Album that boosted them to Superstardom few groups have reached.

My favorite songs of EWF……Reasons, Would You Mind, Can’t Hide Love, That’s The Way Of The World, After The Love Has Gone.

i saw them countless times back in the 70s as a teen. I loved their that's the way of the world album. I think anyone with a problem that needs support should get it and hold it dear because it is about ALL things in life. All about love is another selection; see the light, my god that song steered me through stormy times many, many times over. Their earlier work such as head to the sky is a head-turner - the song evil showcased their musicianship, as did zanzibar. EW&F - Reece is the GOAT!

I really enjoyed Earth, Wind, & Fire-yet Maurice White had such a voice that really touched my heart, because that man can sing!! Our regrets that we lost him. He's peacefully resting out of the misery of this world...we all will always remember him. And to add to this comment, my 2 most favorite albums were 'Spirit' & 'All In All.' On the ''Spirit' album, the song that bears the group's name--'Earth, Wind, & Fire'-y'all need to listen to it-Maurice's voice is superb!! Yet the rest of the album is just wonderful! I was in the 9th grade when it came out!!!

I became an immediate fan when Where Have All The Flowers Gone came out. I was 15 yrs old and there was something about this man's voice spoke to my spirit. Whenever he would sing "Aw right" in his songs it would soothe my soul. My fav songs are That's the way of the world, Be ever wonderful, All about love, The world is a masquerade, On your face just to mention a few. ❤

Maurice White and Earth , Wind, and Fire is my favorite all times band. They musically introduce me to African Kamitic Spirituality. The literally save my life. I was about to seek revenge on one of my friends who double cross me. And the radio play 3 Earth, Wind and Fire songs, that took me out of a negative trance. The song was Evil, That's the way of the world and You need Devotion. They are still my favorite band of all times.
