Breathtakingly brilliant mate. You told this story so well. He was a brutal man by all accounts and growing up on Whit lane the stories of him are well known but i never knew he was buried over on brindleheath. Absolutely fabulously told! I live in a Grade II listed property in Charlestown, just meters from this site. Back 13 years ago, some of those old structures were still there. I used to roam around there, and pulled some of that old brick and pottery from those foundations before it became of archaeological interest. I didn't know the story, despite having been held captive many an hour at my old neighbour's fireside, listening to stories about her growing up on Whit Lane. I have spent so much time in that park on Douglas Green, it does get creepy and odd, I have some strange tales and lots of oddities in the many photos I took of my son when he was little. I reckon the whole of England is literally soaked in scary imprints from what has transpired on the land throughout history. I love your channel! Love that Martin Zero is a viewer of yours! I love his channel as well!!

Well told account, my mam lives the Street after St Sebastian's , grew up in Levens Street and then Chinley Street both demolished now and family used to work in the two factories round there Lockett's and Pioneer Weston's.. suppose all that area was probably part of Black Douglas history. I have heard stories about him but never researched it, don't need to now, great watch. Brilliant video,me and my sister used to live in Kersal and would visit the park every Sunday (roughly 1975) mam used to say be careful of Black Douglas he’d be riding on his horse. We asked her who he was and she said an evil man but never went into detail...anyway to get to the park we had to cross jubilee bridge (other side of st.Alberts) many many times we swore we heard kids crying as we crossed the bridge. Also the factories that used to run along the river bank there near where the mill was,would that have been the bleach works? Or part of his mill? Again fantastic video
@daftmonkey72964 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much mate, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the kind words. I grew up pretty much directly facing jubilee bridge on the whit lane side (parsonsfield/Britannia street) next to the old house pub. And it always has an eerie vibe to it. If we was to ever play near the park especially towards the weir there was always the sense that something wanted to grab you a strange as that sounds. I left a lot out of the video as some of the facts about black Douglas were too graphic to include into the video. He was truly evil and at the time it must have been terrifying for those poor kids. Yes, bleach works/western oil seals is the land he would owned including the land of Alberts and the little park. I believe the old bowling green would have been his front garden? (Before it was the bowling green) he pretty much owned that whole of that part of whit lane. Crazy to think. Thanks once again mate. It’s much appreciated 🙌🏼🐒

I'm enjoying your videos, this is the 3rd one I've watched. I was born in the Whit Lane area and everyone from there knew about Black Douglas. People were said to have seen him riding his horse along the banks of the Irwell late at night. I read something a lot of years ago, probably in the Salford Reporter that his grave was smashed to bits by kids who had been told how cruel he was to the children who slaved away for him. Also, being a ghost hunter, like your dad, and sensitive to to the spirit world, I doubt I would fancy living in the houses on his land. If he's still around I can imagine his ghost to be a nasty piece of work. I might ask my daughter if she wants to pay a visit to the area on Halloween, weather permitting.

I came to your Vlog thru Martin Zero's channel. Yeah, I don't think I would want to live so close to where his factory was located. I am a firm believer in land being tainted by the blood, fear and hardship of others. I remember reading somewhere that mill owners would have kids working in their mills to clean out the fluff from the machines because their hands and arms were small enough to get into tight spaces. They had to do this while the machines were still running and the kids would get caught up in the machines and maimed.
@daftmonkey72964 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for checking out the channel Paul, it’s much appreciated mate. Yeah, some of the mill owners would employ theses small children as apprentices to learn the cotton trade but many of them was mistreated and in the case of Black Douglas he really did take advance of the power he held over these poor slave kids. I had to leave a lot out about him as it was pretty graphic but believe me this man was as horrible as they come. Thanks once again Paul, take care mate 👍🏼
