I loved Captain Kangaroo! I had a Capt Kangaroo coloring book that I cherished until my teen years! I also remember finding out about his show's racial controversy after his death.

Captain Kangaroo, Bob Ross, and Mr. Rogers were a big part of my childhood. Too bad they don't make shows like them anymore. Children today could use shows like them.

We also watched Garfield Goose with Frazier Thomas and Bozo's Circus. Also watch Ray Rayner Show and his other show, Rocket to Adventure. Don't know if these shows were nationwide but they were the shows to watch in Chicago area.

What about Pee Wee’s Playhouse? The man who star Pee Wee’s Playhouse recently passed away well a Canadian could play Pee Wee Herman, a Colombian could play the Genie Jambi and Will Smith as Cowboy Curtis. To set up the New Pee Wee’s Playhouse. Jim Carrey as Pee Wee Herman John Leguizamo as Jambi Will Smith as Cowboy Curtis

I totally agree. I got my appendix removed in 1971. In those days that meant a week in the hospital and about 3 weeks at home recovering. I watched The Captain and The Electric Company on PBS. Morgan Freeman starred on this show. Great memories, even though I was recovering from the surgery. Oh did I mention the surgery was performed with a rusty, dull butter knife😂😂

Same here! Mr. Rodgers too. His hair and his sideburns freaked me out a tad though..lol...thinking back now, he could've laid off of the hoho's..lol. but, isn't it sad how kids now have nothing positive to watch and learn from? It's all violence and rap music crap! Sad!

Where I lived he came on in the morning between Rocky and Bullwinkle and our local show Buckskin Bill. The 60’s and 70’s were great times to be a kid.

Mr. Green Jeans, Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose, Grandfather Clock and the Captain. Learned how to tell time and to tie my shoes watching that show in black and white back in the 50’s. Loved story time when he read a book to everyone and loved all the positive values he taught us. This country could use a dose of the Captain.

I went to go meet him when he was doing an appearance at a science themed toy store opening. I was maybe 20 at the time and was so nervous I couldn't talk to him, didn't ask for an autograph and turned down a photo opportunity. I have met a lot of famous people in my many years on this planet and this is the only time I've ever locked up out of pure shock of seeing him

I watched captain kangaroo,. He suttely taught good values, self esteem to young children, just like early romperroom, that taught young kids, patience, turn taking,sharing, putting toys back when your done. Loved both shows.

I grew up with the Captain. I looked forward to the first show for the month of March because the Captain would have my birthday cake on that day. It was wonderful TV and I'm glad it was all happy and calm. My childhood wasn't all sunshine but watching Captain Kangaroo was.

One of the most underappreciated shows of all time. Captain Kangeroo never gets the rerun treatment it deserve except for one 1976 episode that is currently available on You Tube. The other 1000 or so episodes is, well, still on the waiting list.

When I was a kid I met Captain Kangaroo when I went to the Rialto Theater, he stopped and took the time to talk to me he was so nice I had a really nice experience meeting him !

thank you so much for this. 💕 being born in 1965, i grew up on captain kangaroo, sesame street and the electric company, with an occasional mr. rogers thrown in. these shows taught me so much about life, and i don't just mean numbers and letters. 🤗 a good part of what's wrong today is the lack of access to these types of shows. yes, sesame street is still on, and still doing an exceptional job of educating young people, but it's missed by generations in daycare who never see it. 😞

I grew up watching this show and I never even pictured the Captain Kangaroo as being only 30 years old. He sure fooled me. I was two in this show came out and I really don't remember it until I was older. And became bored with it. There's a song painting flowers on the wall that don't bother me at all smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo now don't tell me I have nothing to do. That keeps captain kangaroo in my mind.

Schwinn bikes were absolutely the best in the day. Loved my 3 speed red racer that I had for years. The Schwinn banana seat high handle bar bikes were iconic.

I watched Captain Kangaroo almost every morning from 1963 to 1975! I learned how to tie my shoes in 1964 from a segment he did with Bunny Rabbit! It was so well done and easy!

Being in my 60s, I watched Cap'n Kangaroo in b/w. I remember having a green plastic CK cup in the bathroom to use when I brushed my teeth. Mr. Moose was probably my favorite character on his show.

I remember watching the original show in the early weekday mornings and loved the original Treasure House more! It also frustrated me as a small child that the new barn wasn't "finished" all the way! Haha!

Loved Captain Kangaroo. He taught me how to tie my shoes. Mr. Green Jeans and the Grandfather Clock taught me the basics of reading the clock face. I was very very young maybe close to 4 years old. My mother told me years later she was shocked the first time she realized I learned these things at an early age from Captain Kangaroo. Not all tv was bad, but I hate clowns because Bozo was creepy 😂

Mr. Keeshan was on the board of Good Samaritan hospital in West Islip, NY, where I grew up. He lived one town over. My aunt, who was a nurse at Good Sam, got me a personally autographed picture of him which I cherished for years. He was a genuinely good man.

I grew up in upstate NY watching Captain Kangaroo. I guess it was actually filmed somewhat nearby. Anyway, as a kid, I absolutely loved it. What a relief it was! Wish the kids had something like this today to hang their hats on. Now, they are told they are intrinsically evil and transgender, instead. Not too much pressure, huh? Just sickening and angering!

Living in Australia the first reference I heard of "Captain Kangaroo" was in the Statler Brother's song "Flowers on the Wall". Kangaroos are native to Australia so I thought the show was an Australian based show but only shown in the USA. This video is the first I've seen which explained the show. Thanks.

I remember watching in the 60s. I remember that catchy theme song and the keys. Also the regular characters. But I can't remember a single episode. Nothing has stuck but the visuals. No matter what my age, I always considered it for younger children.

As a kid I watched Capt. Kangaroo and The Howdy Doody Show with Buffalo Bob, Princess Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring, and Clarabelle the Clown. I did not know that Bob Kesshan played both the clown and the captain. Not a bad memory for a man that can't find where he set his own glasses!

God bless him. And who says ? All U.S. Marines are mean huh? Mr. Keeshan was a great gentleman and had a heart of gold. I was born in 1957 and as early as i can remember? The Captain was a part of my daily life. What a great great man and show. Thank you for sharing this. And thank you Captain Kangaroo for a great childhood show.

I had a canon called the mighty moe that actually fired a cannon ball . I played with gi Joe's I rode a 20 inch bike with a banana seat sissy bar slick tire back skinny front and a chrome frame ! we pounded rolls of caps with my fathers hammer damn brought back memories of days with no cable ,no cell phones,Saturday morning cartoons , pf flyers that made me jump higher run faster , they truly were the good days and no helicopter parents ,you left for the day and seen parents at night . now I'm 69 and I realize they did a great job :)
