In October 2020, a small group of musicians, including conductor Tito Muñoz and violinist Giora Schmidt, gathered impromptu in Central Park to perform for pedestrians and onlookers. No rehearsal, just "come as you are" and play. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, NYC's performing arts have been shuttered since March 2020 and all artists have been left without work and opportunities to perform. The musicians in this ensemble, most of whom make a living playing in orchestras, had not performed in a group setting in over 6 months.
NYC's professional musicians are represented by the American Federation of Musicians - Local 802.
