Wow I just happened to stumble on this video and it all makes so much sense now. I've spent the past two months trying to chase a body driven swing where I get super open at impact and I can't make it work for the life of me. I don't have a "bad" case of EE but I was hyper fixated on drawing a line at my butt from DTL and making sure at impact my left cheek didn't move forward. I'm going to check some of your other videos out now

You may be upper core

This is interesting. I've been working on grf last year or so but I just worked out this week that I hit my driver longer, straighter and more consistent if i start me downswing with my arms instead of trying to shift pressure into my left leg etc.
@LarryRinkerGolf2 жыл бұрын
Glad that is working for you. Your weight will be more behind the ball with a driver vs an iron and hitting up on the ball more to be more efficient with club head speed.

Larry, How can someone tell which style of swinger they are (upper, mid, lower)?
@LarryRinkerGolf3 жыл бұрын
I have other videos on my KZbin channel that discuss that. Watch the Larry Rinker Golf Live with Doc Wright and Laurie Rinker from last year. That should help but to be certain you would want to get measured by a certified Wright Balance Fitter. Keep Swinging!

This is another great video by Larry Rinker. I really appreciate how quickly he gets to the information. The upper core swing is working well for me, but I have a question for Larry. On the video of Larry's swing, the back of his lead hand stays pointed at the face-on camera until his hands are past the ball (they get all the way to his lead leg), then the arms/wrists/hands rotate. I have a tendency to start that rotation earlier, usually when my hands reach my trail leg. That often leads to the club head catching up with my hands (or even passing them) before impact. I am definitely getting to my left side. I get good shaft lean with the impact bag down the line a bit, but that goes away when I try to hit the ball. The "no wrist" drill gives me decent shaft lean. The "let go with the right hand" drill is even better for shaft lean. The "claw grip" drill helps only a little. The "left hand only" drill looks great, with excellent shaft lean AND delayed arm/wrist/hand rotation. But, when I put the right hand on the club it takes over the down swing and I lose the gains from the drills. Can you suggest any drills, swing thoughts, or intentions to help? Thank you again for the great content!

A lot of the golf swing is tweaking. If your lead arm gets too far forward you will block the ball and need to work on hooking the ball again with a more aggressive release. If you start over hooking it then do the lead arm drills.

@@LarryRinkerGolf Thanks Larry. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get the lead arm forward enough. The trail arm straightens too early, the trail wrist goes into flexion, and the club head "flips" past my hands. The lead arm drills train my lead arm/wrist/hand well, but I need something to train my trail arm/wrist/hand such that my lead elbow maintains flex and my trail wrist maintains extension until much later in the throughswing. The "no wrist" drill helps, but as soon as I relax the wrists the issue returns. BTW, I tried Greg Norman's "The Secret", but it only made my index finger more flexible and does not allow for the rollover release we are seeking.

Did not get swing the club head past the body? Are you saying keep the club head square past the body or? Not seeing what you are saying?
@LarryRinkerGolf3 ай бұрын
I didn't say anything about club face. The club head catches up to, and goes past the chest. Hopefully you understand that. Thanks.

Trying to perfect the transition. Do you find that people have trouble getting stuck while trying to keep their back to the target longer?
@LarryRinkerGolf3 жыл бұрын
Actually they get "stuck" when the torso turns early and the club can't catch up at impact. Sequencing the body pivot with the arms, hands and wrists swinging the club head is what everyone is looking for. Upper Core players have to swing the club head past the body the earliest.

How do you calm a hook down? I’m over hooking everything.
@LarryRinkerGolf Жыл бұрын
I have videos on that.

The video I saw was moving ball position a little more forward. I have tried that before but I tend to hit wipes. My guess is I’m not getting on left side enough or my upper body is overpowering. Is there another?

Another great video Larry. I'm a 5 HC Upper core player with lower back issues. I play pain free most of the time but one thing I have to watch with my upper core swing is overdoing the back to the target feel when swinging the arms past the body. If I stay down too long while the arms extend toward the target after impact, it irritates my low back. It may be more related to keeping the trail heel planted too long after impact. Any tips for not overdoing that aspect of the swing to lessen the stress on my back? Thanks

Don’t try to stay in posture. Stand up going through impact and see if that helps. Thanks.
@LarryRinkerGolf2 жыл бұрын
You have to stand up and come out of posture. That is an upper core trait. Try that and see if it doesn't help. Thanks.

“Right hip starts with the club head.” What does that mean?
@LarryRinkerGolf2 жыл бұрын
When the club head starts in the back swing, the right hip starts to turn for the upper core player.
@edmoreno69262 жыл бұрын
What are your thoughts on open stance with your hips square. I feel your description matches my tendency. I line up open to prevent hooking the ball. I have an aggressive hand release.
@LarryRinkerGolf2 жыл бұрын
For short irons you can set up open with the stance. I wouldn't advise it with mid to long irons and woods.

wow...wish the golf teachers out there teaching the modern day pro swing would realize this and start teaching upper core swing after testing them if that what the student is.
@shellbmb7 Жыл бұрын
Larry, do you find that a lot of upper core players get labeled as "early extenders" and work on the wrong things? I feel like I'm an upper core player, but instructors always try to work on my early extension which I just can't do and it causes lower back pain.
@LarryRinkerGolf Жыл бұрын
100%. Unfortunately, most instructors don’t know there is a viable swing model called the upper core swing.
