When I was a Flight Nurse in C141 a pilot friend asked me if I'd like to ride along for a HALO drop. The 141 had a rear ramp that put down allowed cargo in, so I assumed they'd simply lower it & they'd walk off. Nope, they went out the side door. I was told that was tricky because they had to avoid hitting the did or tail while going free of plane. Amazing, they stepped to door & in nanosecond they were gone.Those brave men really impressed me.

Green Beret actual name is Special Forces. A green beret is the hat. Rangers & SF are SpecOps (Special Operations). Not skydiving it’s military freefall or just freefall. Good video but some inaccuracies.

And it ticks me off that the Army adopted the black beret as the all army headgear, that belongs to the Ranger! And it is actually a terrible item to be worn, not very useful. Oh and did I mention that originally the military ordered the first black berets going to regular Army from the Communist Chinese! True! I even commented about that to the Army times when I read about it!

It’s hard for me to watch the first person view of them jumping. I had a fall at work and broke both my arms, right wrist and arm, left elbow, and it really fucked me up on heights, man. These gentlemen are wild beasts and they make me so proud to be American. Our government and presidents sure can suck sometimes, but the men and women who makeup our armed forces will always have my support and respect and love.

Some key FYIs: You glaringly forgot to mention the three US Air Force special ops units - the Pararescue Jumpers (PJs), Combat Controllers (CCTs) and Special Reconnaissance (SRs). Also, in the US, the nomenclature Special Forces refers to the Green Berets only. The broad terminology used to describe all such units is generally special operations (spec ops) or special operations forces (SOF).

Green Berets are officially named Special Forces, a unit of the US Army. All the other units are labeled special operations.

This are not HALO but conventional free fall jumps... HALO or HAHO are performed jumping from + 30000 ft with oxigen and thermal suit.

Start training for it. Get yourself in the best possible shape you can prior to signing up. There’s tons of info online about preparing. Most guys are going to quit when it gets miserable. Expect to be gone a lot & not see your family much. Be exceptionally careful & fully vet who you marry.The long running saying is “ you can’t be a true special operator without at least one divorce under your belt” FYI. RLTW/DOL/TTWDTOML

when I was in a aviation unit at Hunter Army Air Field home of the !st BN 75th Rangers and our primary mission was to support the Rangers. We did a lot of interesting in supporting them. That had kit and weapons I didn't know the Army. We would take them out for a night for an over water jump. We actually would being flying over the forest and visa versa. So they were always prepared for the unexpected. Best 3 years in my Army career.

Interesting video,. Other than the many inaccuracies, the actual pronunciation of Col. Joe's last name is "Kitting-er", not Kittin-jer". He was a very nice guy and loved being part of the skydiving community. I met him and listened to his stories at a PIA convention. He will be missed by many.

Great video and useful info (former SSG 75th RR in the early 90’s and a Mech.Eng/r in Aviation for 25yrs). However both tests you have shown are dynamic; the vertical G’s drop and the kinematic one. We do static tests (not on people or mannequins; it doesn’t make sense) on structures too.

Im an ex-military jumper. Halo means “high altitude, low opening”, they dont need oxygen masks. The jumps you mean are “haho” jumps, “high altitude, high opening”, they need oxygen masks because they can cross distances between 40 and 60km in the air

It must be recognized that the United States Special Forces are very professional, they have excellent equipment and they also have brutal and very complete training. They have their tactical methods applied in their operations that make them effective but at the same time very limited and I say this, because I have operated with them in my country and with them it has always been unsuccessful, even with the DEVGRU, not everything is as they paint it
