Oscar Schmidt and Larry Bird could have been a very tight match up if Oscar ever played in the NBA.. Both have a very similar style of play
@guerradade4 жыл бұрын
When Oscar was invited to move to NBA, 1984, only a few of foreign players there were in the league, I remenber only dominique wilkins, borned in france, and african man (maybe Hakeem Olajuwon), after them the league begans to bring foreiners, OScar in europe played agayinst the best fiba players of the world , names like drazen petrovic, sabonis, gianakis, kurtinaits, but some years after NBA open the doors to the best fiba players, some one being among the best nba players, Oscar is the top scorer of world cups and olimpic games, and other leagues, and today he is the top scorer in the world with more points that kareem abdul, one the top 3 NBA players of all times, but Oscar could be still have more points, because in a half of his timelife in basketball there was not the 3 points line, and Oscar who made points always in a large distance, only had registred 2 points for each suposed 3 points shot done, so is very dificult to compare Oscar with another player, and because he is a white man is simple to compare his style with larry bird style, basically a great shooter, because the black american players generally have elasticity, lightness, wingspan, and quickness, qualities that make the NBA matches a show mixed a sport game, and there is imposible a white man reach out the top positions in NBA history, although Oscar recently was included member of basketball hall of fame, and there s not bad for a man that never belonged to NBA, isnt a balck player, southamerican, and the first man to win the united states team inside US territory, in indianapolis, 1987.
@DKBharat104 жыл бұрын
@@guerradade But still the question is... Would he have been this affective if he played in the NBA? Other than just shooting... Did he have the otherwise overall game like Larry Bird (playmaking, rebounding, Defence etc) ? Bcoz in the 1987 Pan American games USA didn't really send their main players for international basketball until 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He has mostly played in Europe and Brazil which back then and even now... Plays the shooting form of basketball and used to be slow and less physical in defence compared to the NBA in the 80's and 90's . Not trying to demean him.... But this is just a doubt in my mind
@guerradade4 жыл бұрын
@@DKBharat10 It s impossible to know what he would be done being a NBA player, but its no matter, what I like to undesrtand is the really level that Oscar reached, throughout life, the thousands of points and records in olimpic games or mundial cups dont mean nothing? in 1987 the USA team were young, but already drafted (without Oscar they were far superior to brazil), a few months later players like danny manning, david robinson, anderson or chapman were NBA stars, The 1987 USA TEam were so strong, olimpic finalist in 1988, they never lost before for anyone, including they were so sure of victory that the american national anthem was ready to be played in a record player after that game, I agree Oscar and bird had a similar style, only great shooters, and both, because are white race, never could compete with the top black players because their huge phisical capacity, wingspan, mobility and elasticity, like jordan, kobe, johnson, etc, but what I reallly would like to know is if Oscar with his incredible ease to score in the matches, what the importance of this to win games, being Oscar not so espetacular like the top black player, but only a greta shooter, how much your quality would make a difference to win matches in NBA seasons, because playing for brazil team in fiba games, he broke all points records and keep the poor team (not good players) of Brazil always in the 4o or 5o place in the world championships, I d like to see if bird or jordan would do the same playing in a similiar team like brazil in the 80's, or see what level oscar, scoring for nets (who drafted him in 1984), would take his team in an nba season, there are questions that we will never find the answers, but is possible imagine this, comparing his performance in fiba top matches with the other players who was played in both leagues, I saw sometimes the profesional american team lost matches in olimpic games or world cups, so I wonder if all things that Oscar made to brazilian team in fiba games and his records dont could repeat in a nba season, remembering that allen iverson said that oscar was very difficult to stop, even as a veteran (34 yo), in the 1992 games

And when you consider the league has been dominated by foreigners for the last 5 seasons (Giannis, Jokic and Embiid), it's very unlikely we will see another stacked team like this. Even if the likes of Curry, KD, Kawhi etc had been part of the 2020 (2021) squad, we would still miss Jokic, Embiid, Giannis, Luka. But not here. So far, I have seen Sp, Ger, Cro and Ang first games vs Dream Team. I can tell you Brazil has fought for it like no other, so far, you can see that in the score. All other teams were way far from DT before the first half had ended. Hats off to a modest team that I think, many of its players could've made it to the NBA (no idea if any made it, whatsoever). I love the DT but seeing another team really standing up for itself, it's really motivational.

Brazil did really well. They were going one for one with the USA for stretches of time,

It´s crazy to see the physical constitution of USA team compared to Brazil, the height doesn´t have so much difference, but strenght, agility, definition, athletcism of USA players is way ahead of brazilian players...

Great fundamentals from the USteam. New generations should take notice of what those guys were doing. There's a great lack in fundamentals today.
