Over the 47 years serving in the United States Navy, the USS Midway was active for the entire length of the Cold War with the Soviet Union. The USS Midway Museum is proud to tell the story of this “Invisible War” that dominated the international geo-political landscape for the last half of the 20th century. Nearing the end, in 1982, the USS Midway joined fellow air-craft carrier USS Enterprise to conduct a major exercise off the coast of the Soviet Union as a show of force and demonstrate the United States superior Naval power. The weather in the North Pacific deteriorated quickly and ultimately left F-14 pilot, Lt. Tom Lawson unable to land on the Enterprise. Watch what happened next, and how the USS Midway added to its legendary reputation.
This is episode four in a series titled The USS Midway Museum: United Stories of America® We would like to thank Gary Schreffler from GRS Videos and Buzz Nau from CV41.org as well as Martin Fitzgerald and the entire USS Midway Veterans Association for helping to make this documentary series possible.
