The Vaal Dam 2 - 2016 Drought

Follow up visit to the Vaal Dam after our initial visit and video 11 September 2016. Current water level at 26.6%.
Dropped by about a meter in 7 weeks. Loosing around 1% of water per week from 33% in Sept to 27% seven weeks later.
We are very thankful for the 70-80mm of rain that fell since. We need a lot more to fill up the Vaal Dam.

I grew up in Deneysville and lived there from 1974 to around 1989. The parents and grandparents stayed on until about 2010. I loved living there and am so grateful to have had the life we had. The water was at one stage much lower, with our yachts anchored in the river leading up to the wall. We walked and drove our cars from Manten Marina to the island on the left of them - obviously it wasn't an island at that stage. So, yes - it's empty, but not as low as I've seen it before. And it filled up pretty fast once each of the the droughts broke, so hang in there, before long it will be the magnificent Vaaldam once again. This video brought back so many good memories of the place - thank you Dirk.

34,6% today , looks like it's on the way up again ... we need the rain but it looks like its all or nothing , can't we get a happy medium between the drought and the floods that ruined houses downstream in the Vaal Triangle ? BTW I love those videos ... great job

Hi I know the area well. Thanks for this. We had a boat there in 1994 and the dam was 23 percent full. Dickie manton was just as empty and the fishermen just as frustrated. Really interesting seeing this from the air. No drones in .1994!
