Fellow Valkyrie owner, I've had a 1998 since new...26 years so far. Couple things, if possible only use ethanol-free fuel unless you're going to run the whole tank out. Ethanol molecules attracks water molecules so if it sits in the tank for a few weeks then you'll slowly have water in your fuel and poor engine idle and missing. Second, the bike has a fuel petcock below the tank on the left side...on, off, reserve. Use 'off' when the bike is off to prevent hydrolock of engine incase of a stuck carb float, use 'on' when running, and if it starts running out of fuel, switch to 'RES' for the last gallon of fuel in tank. Also, by the sound of your bike at idle, it needs a carb cleaning and sync. It will be smoother running. The pilot jets are small (35's) and get clogged and that will produce that rough idle burble sound. Soak the pilot jets in carb cleaner for a day or 2 to get any gummy residue dissolved and cleaned out. Just my 2 cents for what's is worth. Enjoy your bike, they're fantastic machines!!

Thanks for watching and subscribe! Unfortunately i sold the Valkyrie, the only problem i even had with it was it was slightly leaking oil from the fork. That made the front suspension too soft, but other than that its an amazing bike. I have 3 other motorcycles check them out on my channel

Always wanted a Valkyrie. So, I bought a frame, a salvage engine, and the rest of the bike in pieces. Took 9 months to build it. Based on the '99, it was sure some jigsaw puzzle! I am the original owner (of this collection of assembled parts) and have had it for about 10 years. I am the only person to have ridden it as well. On my test ride after completing the build, I rode it from S. Mississippi to the 15th annual meeting of the VRCC in Spearfish, SD, in 2015. Then, on to the Canadian border at Antlers, ND. Got a tank of bad gas somewhere, and the rear valve stem gave out. Those were the only issues. I still have it, and yes, I still ride it. Currently it is fitted with a Velorex sidecar for a grocery-getter. Sure gets the looks! Not much to look at rattlecan paint job, but hey, who needs a fancy paint job anyway? I love it as it is. So, is it a Valkyrie, or a replica? I don't care. Only cost me time and a few thousand, but, the experiences have been priceless!

I absolutely love my 98 Tourer. I have the yellow and white which happens to be my preferred color. I put some Tsukayu jumbo strong saddlebags on it and King trunk as well and had them painted yellow to match the rest of the bike. My wife and I love to take trips together on the bike and look forward to many more adventures together!

Indeed very much underrated bike. About the fuel gauge, you will feel the loss of power when you have to switch reserve on. I also keep an eye on the odometer. Usually reserve kicks in at about 200km, but when twisting the right hand liberally, it can come down to 120km... anyway, speaking of fuel anxiety, I also have a Tenere, where the fuel light blinks like crazy at 230km, and at fill up has still more than a gallon (120km) left.

Dang, I’ve never had a motorcycle though I’ve considered it for years. Now I’ve been watching a bunch of Valkyrie videos and I’m convinced I need one! I know I need a tier or two of beginner bikes first before jumping on a 100 hp bike, but I’m going to keep an eye out in case I see one on a smoking deal to park in the garage for a year or two while I get some skills

The power is amazingly predictable and tractable, it's the weight and bulk of the bike that is likely to catch a newer rider off guard. I've owned a 2000 Interstate, a 1997 standard, and currently a 2001 Interstate. In any case, it's definitely not a bike I'd recommend for a beginner.

Your neighbours must love you revving your motorsickle at midnight for fun? As you worry about running out of petrol simply run the bike on the main tank and wait for it to begin spluttering before turning on your reserve tank. Those saddle boxes and crash bars are brilliant. Much better that the factory boxes which I have on my Interstate. They will only store documents - essentially useless.

You have to be careful on even a stock Valkyrie. It is a bad ass machine. I bought mine in 1997 and it took me 500 miles to get used to it's massive power and even when you look down at the tank, you think, WTF did I just buy. Here I am 27 years later with the same bike and can't find a fault.

The bike is pretty heavy in terms of pushing or pulling it up a little hill, but its not bad at all with “tipping over” because the weight of the engine is very low compared to a regular vtwin… it feels much lighter and than it is with leaning. Thanks for watching and subscribe!

I find it bizarre that even in 2003 Honda didn't have any sort of fuel gauge on these bikes. Were they trying to appease the brat bike crowd back then hoping the valkyrie would fill such a niche market?

My only concern with this bike is it has six carburetors and if one comes out of tune you’re in trouble because now you have a huge problem and unless you’re a mechanic you’re going to pay big bucks to have them worked on and this is NOT a if but a when. I owned a GoldWing and one of my carburetors leaked. Total disaster

I've got a 99 Valk tourer. Never had the carbs synced. Has 50k on it. I used to be on the road a lot and would just jump on it and ride when I was home. Did have the valves adjusted one time. Mechanic said they were not out of adj. Replaced a pet cock on the tank once. Change oil every 3k mi. Just now checking the timing belts and valves. Had to get the forks resealed. Not bad for a 25 yr old bike. I've had many and this one is the most reliable. It helps to be mechanically inclined. Changing a rear tire ain't cake but do able. Although I haven't had to replace anything major, routine maintenance is a must, brake pads, tires, oil, coolant. This is not a boring bike. Believe me it's worth the up keep. Ask anyone who has maintained the old points and the bucket and shim valves that are still used in a lot of bikes. Run non eth gas unless in a pinch and it's unavailable. Refill as soon as possible.

I run ethanol free in mine as well, especially important if the bike sits for a month or more at a time. I've rebuilt the carbs, and once you've seen the damage that gas with ethanol can do (& after only a few months of winter storage), you might agree and switch to ethanol free. Just my opinion and preference. I have a 99 valkyrie basic model, with a " California Sidecar" brand trike kit installed. I enjoyed the video as I'm from "315 area code" too👍
