This sounds like an interestingly creative yet descriptive way to map out someone’s character rather than putting down bullet points of information. Perhaps I shall use this method for every character I chance upon from now on, thank you Ways Away Tavern!

I’m so glad to hear that! It definitely has helped me a lot recently; it’s acted like short-hand for those extra details that I might have missed otherwise.

This is also something I have been doing as a DM, moreover for my "planned" NPCs I give them 2-3 quotes of what I want them to say each being a sentence. From this I can extrapolate their goals and whatnot, if they are deceitful I'll write 1-3 actions they can do that could hint at that. Or just the tone they speak their quotes in. I have found some success as my players have grabbed a quote and ran with it, such as "The net is closing and you need not be in it" is something they have brought up a few times. I like the idea of having other NPCs actually quote someone else and I think I might use that, thanks for the idea and consistently great content.

Those are excellent ideas! Planning quotes AND actions sounds like a really helpful combo, that’s super smart. And I love that your players have latched onto one, that’s so cool! Thanks so much, I really appreciate the love and support!

As a fellow avid note-taker I am definitely going to start implementing this! I love the literary analysis of just a few simple words and how it was able to make such a big impact on your understanding. Your descriptions have helped my understanding of these characters improve further as well! Outstanding work, my friend!!

Wow! The visuals just keep getting better and better! This is such a good way to get people really thinking about their characters personality. It can be so easy to come up with the idea of a character but bringing them to life can be its own challenge once you're actually sitting at the table. This is such a great way to think deeper about your characters personality and really find their values.

Thanks so much! Absolutely, I feel that way too! It can be such a struggle to translate my character’s background into what they’re actually like to in-game. This has been helping me bridge that gap a little more smoothly!

As a DM, when making the voices of a character and trying to remember them later on, I try to use a sentence to remember the way they speak But it had not occured to me to use the same as a player for their psychology, it is indeed a great tool :)

That’s a really good idea! I struggle with “finding the voice” even for my own characters, especially at the start of sessions, so that’s a pro tip 🤝

Love that idea and it's so nice to see the attention to detail you put into this new production style. The grey minis actually work better than if they would be painted.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate you stopping by to watch, and the compliments mean a lot coming from you! And I’m glad the choice with the flat primed minis worked out too. I’m not a strong mini painter, so working around my limitations on this one ended up leading to a result I liked!

@@WaysAwayTavern 🤗🤗 Limitations are what breeds creativity and so often it's about what to leave out rather than what to add.

Quotes matter. Leonidas saying, "We will fight in the shade." Churchill saying, "If you are going through hell, keep going." Harriet Tubman, "You'll be free or die." These things speak volumes into who these people were.

As a DM I have been doing something similar for my NPCs. Not the exact same thing but using something that encapsulates the character in a less tangible way. What an important npc might be known by or how people would talk about them. I have found that the characters I do this with are often the ones my players come back to and love to talk to. For an example, the military General who's unofficial title amongst his troops is "the unstoppable dreadnought" with multiple missing limbs and a missing eye, the visual mixed with the title gives you an idea of what kind of person he is. Or the cleric NPC that they absolutely adored, who is described as the epitome of "a Bible in one hand and a pistol in the other". I've used quotes in the past, but those were more to help me find the voice for the character and how they talked and how much they talked. But I'm realizing that those often times replaced the intangible descriptions I would normally have.

That’s awesome! That’s a really smart tactic, and pretty amazing to hear that those are the ones your players remember best. I don’t know how close my imagination is to the actual character, but “The Unstoppable Dreadnought” paired with that description brings a super vivid image to mind for me, that’s excellent! Titles are such a cool tool that I need to put to use more.
