She was saying that playing at certain venues back then (Exploding Plastic Inevitable era) was like “screw them.. like the French” I guess her opinion is how they were at a Warhol art show and they were snobs and didn’t care for their music. (like how the French are generally thought of in America) But she takes it back respectfully because it’s considered “rude” to say that nowadays similar with the Japanese or Germans and Russians during the 60’s in the U.S.
