There will never be another Paul Newman. He should have won the Oscar for The Verdict

I agree. Especially for his quite unforgettable delivery of the dialogue for this scene.

The amazing David Mamet wrote this remarkable screenplay; directed by Sidney Lumet. The performances of the entire cast are nothing short of breathtaking.

Paul Newman had the bad luck of going against Ben Kingsley for Ghandi.

One of the more powerful, poignant and moving films you'll ever see. If you've never viewed this work, you should do yourself a favor and do so. You'll walk away, stunned at the performances and the writing and the gift of Paul Newman. As a surgeon, I wish I could tell you that the events depicted herein couldn't happen. That would be a lie. I could regale you with hours of incompetence and subterfuge mirroring these events, occurrence after occurrence, a number of which resulted in the death of the patient (a number of whom were babies.) Very sad. Pax.
