thanks for the very helpful video. i understand risk of assignment is pretty scary and likely. therefore to mitigate the risk, the trader should monitor the price movement and set rules of when to take profit and when to accept lost. Perhaps you could do a video on your rules for profit taking/loss making and how you monitor trades as time goes by, thereby avoiding the risk of assignment. Thanks again :)

Great video as always. Question: and I know this is answered with “it depends” but if I have a debit call spread that is in the money. Well above the strike price and trending upwards, should I just hold it until expiration? I actually tried to close at a fair price but there were no takers. So I’m thinking about holding and letting it expire for max profit. Thoughts?
@wordsbymaribeja1470
@wordsbymaribeja1470 3 жыл бұрын
This response will be too late but from what I've learnt from Chris's options for beginners course you should close your position before the expiry because there comes a point when the extrinsic value peaks and then starts to decline, I've seen a formula (elsewhere) where the position is closed at the beginning of the last quarter of the contract.

Hey, thank you so much for the quality knowledge shared here! Since im a beginner to the world of options trading,i have a doubt in the Bull Put strategy. Why do we even buy a put(long put) when the resulting profit is ging to be the same even without it, since our profit depends only on the stock price not falling below the short put strike( the put we sold). Moreover it would decrease our entry price into the spread if we didnt buy the put. I might sound silly but it would be great if you could explain the importance of the long put in Bull Put strategy. Thanks in advance :)

I've gotten much better at trading after viewing content from many different presentations covering many aspects at the trading process. I've discovered the most influential portion of good trading is research. Learning about the company; what it does, how it does it, comparing competitor models, etc. But most of all their financials. Learning how to read P&L, and balance sheets is key to determine if it's a buy or a sell. But with the technical portion like in this video is mostly beneficial in a case by case instance. With your videos I believe them to be too technical for my brain presented in a highly advanced format so much that I don't understand the concepts as they're presented. I understand what you say but how it's said is confusing. For instance your reply is super confusing. I have no idea what you're talking about. I have no idea what the numbers mean or why they're grouped together as they are. You obviously are at master level and I am at pre-novice level. Your method of presenting may never reach me. I truly do appreciate the time it must have taken to put together your videos and applaud you for it. It's just not for the armature in my opinion.

For shorter term options strat its not really worth it, however if you have a LEAP option, selling a call further out can bring your cost basis down as well as provide some hedging against a downturn. Essentially a PMCC.

Everything you are doing is a 1:1 ratio.. What if you bought 2 call options and shorted 1. Would the profit be double? Like for the first example, the profit was 15 but if you bought 2 call options, wouldn’t that be double”30” So when you hit your price point, let’s say 80% then sell one off and let the other ride to see what happens. Would that work?

It’s worth bearing in mind that your choice of broker can restrict the tools available to you. Free day trading software may seem like a no brainier to start with, but if it comes with the sacrifice of technical tools that could enhance trade decisions then it may cost you in the long run. Remember the best day trading software for Forex may not cut the mustard when you use it for stocks, so do your research and consider all the factors outlined above. Most importantly, you wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it first, and your day trading software shouldn’t be any different, Don't worry Mr Joans Kaufmann can help you too

Great video. I need to use short call spread instead of just shorting calls. Shorting calls results in unpredictable margin requirements. I'm holding short $GME calls, margin requirements volatility is crazy, I have barely survived the last bull run-:)
@projectfinance
@projectfinance 2 ай бұрын
I would agree! Shorting calls is super risky ESPECIALLY on a stock like GME that has these rips higher. And when the meme stonks rip higher the IV / option premiums explode, so you’re losing on the directional move and IV expansion. A short call spread will help minimize both sources of losses. The downside is the call spreads will be cheap on a stock like GME, giving you less reward for your risk.

I'm new to options. But I don't understand why the multiplier isn't just applied to all given values that it would apply to, right out of the gate. Why do we say "this costs $10" when we all know you really mean $1000? Why isn't the full price of the option just displayed in the chain with the multiplier already factored in? Maybe this is something i'll understand further down the road. But from where I'm standing it seems like a lot of this stuff could be simplified greatly by just standardizing terminology across the market and presenting prices at their true value, all variables factored in. I'm probably missing something since I'm not that experienced yet, but getting into the market, the biggest hurdle was just understanding what is lingo/slang and what is textbook terminology. More times than I can count while watching I yelled at the screen "do you mean THAT number or that number times 100?!" Frustrating to keep up at first. But I do really like your videos they are very informative.

This is an excellent presentation but unless you are a genius, it is not intuitive. I was able to understand it by creating excel spreadsheets of each of these vertical spreads and then watching how the values of each option changes with various stock prices. For example, I created a spread sheet where I could see the how the values of the long put and the short put change with a given stock price and then add them together. Don't forget to subtract the long put option price. You can then plug in different numbers and see how the profits/losses change. When I did this, I understood it.

Love your videos man, you make it way easier for morons like me 😂. I’ve learned more off your videos than I did from a complete stocks and options course that was offered to me from a trading group I used to be with. It was informative but not mind blowing like your videos. Thanks brother I really appreciate it. I will definitely use your link once I open up an account with tasty 👅

Thank you so much, watching your video saves me so much time to go through an entire book. Have been taking notes and rewatching some parts to deepen my understanding. Words can't express my gratitude, I can now paper trade strategies, personally I prefer your debit spreads, more aggressive for strong trending days; but defensive credit spread is good for "not so sure" days. Eye opening. Feeling much more confident after each video. Thank you wish I know your name, God bless you with more abundance, happiness health and love.

You know what??? The precondition to formulate this spread play style is YOU GOT TO HAVE HIGHER STRIKE SECURITY FIRST. Not directly to jump in to short right away without cover. The same feeling about the source of this wordy material MUST BE from Tasty Work who is always prone to lack of clarifying explanation in gaps for details.

I don’t understand. When you enter a spread you short an option and buy an option simultaneously. I am not advising to short an option first and then buy the protection later

I can't understand why you are using the term "short". You are buying a call and selling another.

Short means that the option trade irrespective on what type you get essentially bets the stock would go down or stay below a designated strike price

you still have to be good at guessing UP, DOWN, or SIDEWAYS. there is simply no way to escape this fundamental fact. if anyone was that good at guessing up, down or sideways they would easily be a trillionaire trading regular stock shares. options only make you imagine you have some 'advantage'. in reality options put you at an extreme disadvantage. regular stock shares do not EXPIRE
@projectfinance
@projectfinance Жыл бұрын
That's true. That's why buying calls is cheaper than buying shares of stock -- you have a higher probability of losing your entire investment. Shares of stock are like calls with a strike price of zero and no expiration date.

Hey good video, but you contradict yourself, on strategy # 2 you saying if u short out of the money spread. you have high prpbility of making money but comes with more risk. if you have high probality there should not be less reward. it could not happend.
@projectfinance

Generally: More risk than reward = More than 50% probability of making money if held to expiration. Less risk than reward = Less than 50% probability of making money if held to expiration.

Good presentation but the best way to grasp this is to do it. Chris stated he studied for 300 hours until he traded a single option but I disagree. Just play with a small amount of money and you can still grasp it much easier. I am learning trading Zynga options which will cost in the teens to play with. There are nuances with bid-ask, time to get the option purchased etc. that must be experienced rather than explained.

You're right, experience is the best way to learn. I mentioned I spent hundreds of hours reading before trading, but that's not what I'm recommending as required before trading. As long as you carefully trade and understand the risk of your positions, you can begin trading and learning with experience in a safe manner.

Great information! One question I always have is how to compare wider spreads and less contracts vs narrower spreads and more contracts. For example, if I want my max loss to be less than $1000, then how do I decide between two $5 wide spread vs one $10 wide spread? I know options are all about trade-off but I don't have a clear view now about the trade-off between these two choices.

Great video! Wondering, if you’re best off selling any spreads with a deep itm option due to early assignment risk, who actually buys the options at that point? If every trader want to get rid of options before expiration to avoid dealing with assignment, won’t the prices go down due to low demand? Who buys contracts just before expiration?

After you understand the win loss probabilities of the particular spread in mind, and the implications it has on profitability over many trades, then go and learn about position sizing and capital efficiency and return on capital. Then you will be able to answer that question yourself. Good luck on your researching and learning.
