great version but i think their performance of this classic song on jools holland was better but this version is superb to, its just missing those strings. thanks for posting this, the verve are a criminally underrated/overlooked band

The song is about his father's struggle with Cancer and all the drugs they tried on not working!! It's bittersweet and is timeless!

His voice is so incredibly strong, in the lower, middle and higher regions. It’s just a flawless voice and he uses it with such emotion. Plus, the song is absolutely brilliant. Wow; so moving.

Sempre bellissima! Dalla prima volta che l'ho sentita me ne sono innamorato! Oggi come allora, ogni volta è un'emozione grandissima riascoltare Richard cantarla! Strepitoso Richard! Grandissimi The Verve! Siete una parte fondamentale dei miei 20 anni...

All this talk of getting old It's getting me down, my love Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm coming down And I hope you're thinking of me As you lay down on your side Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again But I know I'm on a losing streak As I pass down by your street And if you wanna show, then just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, oh If heaven falls, I'm coming too Just like you said You leave my life, I'm better off dead All this talk of getting old It's getting me down, my Lord Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm coming down Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, oh If heaven falls, I'm coming too Just like you said You leave my life, I'm better off dead But if you wanna show Then just let me know and I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more, no more

"Lead singer Richard Ashcroft wrote the song in early 1995. He briefly mentioned it in an interview at the time, relating it to his drug usage: "There's a new track I've just written ... It goes 'the drugs don't work, they just make me worse, and I know I'll see your face again'. That's how I'm feeling at the moment. They make me worse, man. But I still take 'em. Out of boredom and frustration you turn to something else to escape" Wikipedia.
